Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Communications and Publications Director, the Video Specialist will oversee all aspects of SHI’s video recording, script writing, editing and post-production work. The Video Specialist position requires technical knowledge of equipment, editing software, digital asset management, livestreaming and is responsible for finished products ready for broadcasting or sharing.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Capture quality video and photographs.
  • Manage all aspects of pre-production, video recording, editing and production.
  • Collaborate with program managers on content development.
  • Serve as documentarian of SHI programs, ceremonies and events.
  • Develop and produce live broadcasts of SHI events.
  • Produce content for SHI website and social media.
  • Follow SHI’s brand guidelines.
  • Assist Communications & Publications staff with other media related projects.
  • Organize, manage and build digital asset library.
  • Strategize ways to improve SHI online access to materials.
  • Lend technical support for audio/video systems.
  • Keep up to date with industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to be organized and deadline oriented.
  • Ability to shoot and edit videos and photos on a high level.
  • Experienced in composing scripts for video projects.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well on own initiative and within a team.
  • Ability to train staff in video shooting and editing.
  • Knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native culture, art and history.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will have no direct reports.

This position’s duties are performed at the Walter Soboleff Building. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

About this Role

This is a full-time benefited exempt position. SHI employees are expected to work during SHI’s regular business hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Additionally, many employees may work up to 45 hours per week or additional time as needed to meet workload demands or special events such as Celebration.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, video production, public affairs or related field
  • Experience in media design and production (or relevant/related work experience).
  • Experience with social media and marketing
  • Competent with Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Wordpress and Shopify
