Job Summary

St. Katharine Drexel School in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin is seeking a take-charge education professional who finds great joy in all aspects of growing the next generation of well adjusted and respectful young people who love and practice their vibrant Catholic faith, while ensuring that graduates are well prepared for the next rung in their educational ladder.

St. Katharine Drexel School is a 3K-8th grade school with an enrollment of 190 students, and it participates in the Wisconsin Parental Choice program. It offers significant extracurricular opportunities to students, including a marching band, forensics, Builders Club, and an engaging collection of activities and events designed to foster personal growth among the student population. SKD is a parish school, operating under the energetically-cooperative control of parish Pastoral and Finance Councils.

Beaver Dam is a city of 17,000 with a vibrant community life, sports, theater, healthcare, a good fishing lake, and a diverse array of activities for all ages. It is roughly equidistant to Milwaukee, Madison, and the Fox Valley.

Job Duties

Under the direction of the Pastor/Administrator, the Principal:

  • provides strategic and operational leadership and day-to-day management in order to achieve the school’s mission
  • leads and develops faculty, staff, students, and school operations in:
  • Mission and Identity
  • Governance and Leadership
  • Academic Excellence
  • Operational Vitality, as defined in the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Schools and policies of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the local parish and school.

Core Responsibilities in the Principal Position

  • works collaboratively with the Pastor, faculty leadership teams, and the School Advisory Commission to develop and implement the mission and vision of the school
  • engages in authentic servant leadership to advance the mission and vision of the school
  • embraces the teachings of the Gospel and serves as the primary faith leader of the school community (faculty and staff, students, and families)
  • is the instructional leader of the school and its programs, including a standards-based learning platform, workshop-model classes, and full inclusion of special education students
  • is the full-time operational manager of the school, effectively mentoring and leading a team of 35 faculty and staff members.
  • assures timely and accurate completion of Federal, State, and the Archdiocesan reports
  • practices high level administrative competence
  • maintains accreditation standards
  • other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
  • Current Wisconsin Administrator Licensure 5051, or approved Study Plan
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, preferably Educational Leadership
  • Evidence of ongoing professional learning
  • Three or more years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • High-level commitment to student-centered decision making
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Competence with MS Office, Google Workspace, and instructional technologies

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-versed in standards-based learning and contemporary instructional practices
  • Competence in the collection, analysis, and utilization of data to inform instructional and operational decisions
  • Effectively coach and mentor staff

Abilities

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Ability to make decisions, be attentive to details, and troubleshoot as appropriate
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
