Department Summary:

The TRIO Programs at the University of North Texas at Dallas were designed to support the academic development of students with target schools. They are federally funded grants that serve low-income, first-generation students.

Position Overview:

The TRIO Director is a member of the department of TRIO and Pre-Collegiate Programs and will have the primary responsibility of assisting with leadership duties of the TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS) Program. TRIO ETS is a component of the federal TRIO Program to assist low income/first generation, 6th through 12th graders persist to next grade level, with the ultimate goal being to graduate from high school and enter post-secondary education. The TRIO Director is responsible for the implementation, administration, and management of all Project activities, under the leadership of the Executive Director. The TRIO Director also assists with budget management; oversees the selection process of all project participants; conducts all formative and summative federal and agency reports; manages project database and generates the Annual Performance Report; hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates all project staff; and ensures compliance with grant and federal regulations are met.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in education, counseling, or public administration; five years of experience with federal TRIO programs, academic support for disadvantaged students; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to administer and manage educational opportunity programs
  • Knowledge of academic advising services, development of individualized service plans, college career, financial aid, and economic literacy services and programming for low-income and first-gen students
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of administrative organization and management
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of others
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, rules and regulations
  • Ability to assist with developing budgets and monitor expenditures
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and Office software
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and conduct internal Project evaluations
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to provide professional leadership and establish effective working relationships
  • Knowledge of barriers to postsecondary education faced by low income and potential first-generation youth in target area
  • Ability to manage time effectively and efficiently within a fast-paced office environment
