II. SUMMARY OF POSITION'S PURPOSE
Provides clerical oversight activities related to children with behavior problems.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or its equivalent
  1. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - Highly Qualified
    1. Pass the ETS Para-Pro Assessment - Score 450; or
    2. Completed two (2) years (48 semester credit hours) from state-approved or regionally accredited institution of higher education; *Within the forty-eight semester hours, the para-professional must complete a total of 15 hours of general education requirements that include English Composition (3), English/Reading (6), and Mathematics (6). For the remaining 33 hours of coursework, acceptance of credit for a course shown on a transcript from and approved higher education institution is left to school district discretion in addressing the needs of the specific job. Discipline-specific electives may include as many as 12 hours of developmental (remedial) course; or
    3. Earned an Associate's Degree from a state-approved or regionally accredited institution of higher education.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Handles behavior referrals from teachers or other employees as directed by the principal.
  2. Requests assignments for students from teachers. Completes form or calls teacher on the intercom.
  3. Explains assignments to students, checks their work, and offers assistance when required. Work is sent to the teacher.
  4. Oversees recess detentions and assigns work.
  5. Refers students to Counselor if required. Maintain records of multiple suspensions and students in FINS.
  6. Reports all special education suspension to the appropriate party. Sends copies of referrals and suspension of special education students to Special Education Teachers.
  7. Enters suspensions in the computer.
  8. Notifies teachers of behavior plans that need to be written. Provides follow-up to ensure that the plans are written and updated.
  9. Records and updates list of students on behavior plans.
  10. Records the number of monthly referrals from each teacher and the number of each consequence and suspension.
  11. Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
  12. Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
  13. Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
  14. Performs other duties as required.
