Hexagon Machine & Mfg is an ISO certified machine shop located in Longmont, CO. We specialize in multi-axis turning and milling, engraving, heat treating, anodizing, coating, inspection, assembly, and testing services.


Role Description

The role is responsible for creating detailed quotations for new jobs based on models and mechanical drawings received from customers. Qualified candidates for this position will have strong machining/toolmaking experience (5+ years). Candidates must also have in-depth knowledge of overall manufacturing workflow processes, including quality, processing/routing of jobs, coatings, heat treatments, purchasing and extensive knowledge of metals. This is a position within a busy "job shop" that is moving towards forming larger, long-term contracts in tandem with a planned AS9100 certification at the start of 2025. The position requires the ability to review and quote a variety of complex work being machined for multiple customers simultaneously. Comfort and experience interacting with customers (i.e., supply chain managers, engineers, and buyers) to address questions and concerns is preferred, as is experience working with Fulcrum or similar ERP.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Generation of customer quotes to include bills of materials and routings using Fulcrum aided by other tools. This includes reading and interpretation of customer supplied 2-D drawings, sketches, CAD models, specifications, and flow-down.


Interface with material suppliers, outside special processors, and applicable internal subject matter experts to obtain labor estimates, pricing and lead times. Executing purchase order arrangements following customer awards.

Prepare final price quote and submit to management for approval and delivery to customer.


Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of manufacturing processes, specifically machining practices required in the production of aerospace hardware. This includes understanding and working with CAD models, applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. Experience with MasterCam is a plus.


Knowledge of machining systems and practices, raw materials, quality control (ISO9001 & AS9100), costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods. Experience working with titanium, aluminums, stainless steels, plastics, coppers, and other common materials.


Ability to interface with management, engineers, clients, vendors, personnel in other departments to support production. In addition, experience communicating professionally with customers is a plus.


Math skills, knowledge of machine tool industry materials and component costs, reading part drawings (including GD&T), interpersonal relations, phone skills, familiarity with Fulcrum or other ERP systems, and experience in Microsoft Office.


Five (5) years minimum in a related position in the machining industry, with three (3) directly relating to estimating.


Personal Qualities:

The ability to work independently and well with others (sales, engineering, management, vendors, customers) to create proposals that meet the customers’ expectations.


Must be a problem solver, organized, good written and verbal skills, strong attention to detail and have ability to prioritize and multi-task.


Needs to have high character and integrity and enjoy being challenged while working in an environment of a growing and continuously improving machine shop.
