Position description

A postdoctoral position is available at UC Berkeley's Innovative Genomics Institute founded by Jennifer Douda, Nobel Prize for CRISPR genome-editing. This position will be supervised by Brian Staskawicz. The postdoctoral researcher will be part of a research team developing genetically improved, high yielding, climate resilient rice varieties in collaboration with farming communities in India. The postdoctoral researcher will conduct outreach to farming communities in India with the goal of capturing farmers' diverse perspectives, preferences and innovative ideas, while building trust, credibility and community ownership. The goal is to integrate farmer perspectives into our scientific research and breeding program. The project involves using mixed social science methods such as surveys, in-depth interviews, focus groups, and data analysis.

This role will work with stakeholders across diverse backgrounds, including farmer facing organizations, community organizations, resource poor farmers, government officials, IGI researchers and donors. The postdoctoral scholar will have the flexibility to design and implement an independent research project within the larger project framework to further their own scholarship as well as collaborate on co-authored articles that contribute to the project objectives and outputs.

This position is eligible for remote work within the USA; training and mentoring will be done virtually if the majority of the position is worked remotely. This position will require travel to India to conduct fieldwork, approximately once per quarter.
