Department Description

Job Description

The Interfaith Partners will assist the Chapel and Religious Life Office by deepening their competency in interfaith leadership and skills, fostering interfaith community, and by developing original and ongoing interfaith programs at High Point University. Partners will learn about and contribute to HPU’s religious and interfaith literacy. Partners will work in a cohort on key projects, each captaining one of those projects, to advance interfaith engagement on campus.

Hours Required

Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires between 5-10 hours per week.

Projected Weekly Hours:

  • 1-hour bi-weekly Partners meeting
  • 2-5 hours of project work
  • 1 hour of multifaith/interfaith study
  • 2-4 hours event attendance/participation and assessment

Requirements

Each Partner will captain a project, but all will contribute to all projects.

  • Bi-Weekly 1-hour meeting: With team of Interfaith Partners to review educational goals and readings and project management.

Potential Projects: (students may also develop one not listed below in consultation with Advisor)

  • Interfaith Partner Blog: a bi-monthly blog on what you are learning about interfaith engagement and service.
    • One Partner will manage, each Partner will contribute at least once a semester.
  • Interfaith Feature Fridays: (Every-other-Week) - to go on HPU Chapel social media.
    One Partner will captain, all responsible for helping identify individuals and stories and doing interviews. Responsibility of Captain:
    • Set schedule spanning religious diversity of campus.
    • Set questions and format, either as Q/A or narrative (story).
    • Learn and create aesthetically pleasing style in which to feature story. Can be done in collaboration with Multimedia Assistants.
  • Interfaith Forum: Create and implement a major event related to interfaith engagement.
    • All will participate. Captain will coordinate and recruit.
  • Infinite Space Production:
    • Captain will collaborate with Jeri Rowe, Staff Advisor.
    • Using blog, interfaith features, and other stories about religious and spiritual engagement on campus, including but not limited to Weekly Chapel, Pilgrimages, Campus Ministries.
  • Curriculum Production: Production of a curriculum (with potential for publishing) for enhancing Interfaith Dinner Club’s mission to bring people together across lines of religious difference to model civility and multicultural understanding.
  • Multifaith Meditation: Formation of a multifaith meditation forum, educating and introducing student body to various meditative practices from different religious traditions.

Other Potential Requirements:

  • Additional responsibilities could include working with Interfaith United, Interfaith Dinner Club, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, collaborating with other religious life organizations, leading trainings for other student leaders around campus, and other duties as assigned.

Expectations

  • Come prepared and attend bi-weekly meetings.
  • Wear business casual professional dress during work hours and any open house or orientation responsibilities.
  • Copy Manager of Chapel Programs and/or Minister to the University on all email and phone correspondence.
  • Work independently and be able to collaborate with other Interfaith Partners, Interfaith Faculty and Staff Advisors, Minister to the University, and other Student Employees of the Office of Religious Life.
  • Serve at a limited capacity as an Office Assistant, when needed.
  • Balance working with their academic responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

Interfaith Partners will need:

  • High attention to detail for project management.
  • Eager to learn interfaith concepts and strategies.
  • Ability to work with little to no oversight, having a high degree of integrity and respect for others.
  • Willingness to learn how to effectively tell stories through narrative and graphic design, and plan initiatives that have the dual purpose of attracting uninvolved students and advancing the Chapel mission of creating lives committed to doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God.

Interfaith Partners take direction from the Minister to the University, who assigns captains to projects. Partners may request to captain a certain project, but the Minister to the University has final say, taking into account talent, knowledge, and desires of all Partners.
