We are looking for a talented Business Analyst to join the Regulatory Intelligence, Safety, and Compliance Legal team (RISC Legal).

This role requires an individual with excellent statistical and analytical abilities, deep knowledge of data solutions and data engineering practices as well as outstanding business acumen. The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail, an ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, and driven by a desire to innovate in this space.

Key job responsibilities

You know and love working with business intelligence tools and can partner with customers to answer key business questions. You are analytical and creative, and you don't quit. You will also have the opportunity to display your skills in the following areas:

  • Architect, design, implement and support a platform providing secured access to large datasets.
  • Interface with business customers and delivering complete BI solutions.
  • Model data and metadata to support ad-hoc and pre-built reporting.
  • Own the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, to drive key business decisions.
  • Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation.
  • Analyze and solve problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context.
  • Use data mining and other analytical techniques to develop and maintain customer segmentation and predictive models to drive the business.
  • Respond to high priority requests from senior business leaders.
  • Learn and understand a broad range of Amazon's data resources and know when, how, and which to use and which not to use.
  • Continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for secondary datasets.

A day in the life

A typical day in the life of this role will be managing data support and requests, identifying process improvements, and being the data expert for the RISC Legal team. As the BA for this team, you will be responsible for maintaining our internal metrics and dashboards, finding new and creative ways to present data, and helping us improve our overall data analytics. This role works closely with our operational business intelligence stakeholders and provides the successful candidate the opportunity to continuously develop their skills and partner with teams to create new solutions to evolving data needs.

About The Team

The Regulatory Intelligence, Safety, and Compliance Legal Team (RISC Legal) sits within Amazon NA Consumer Legal. RISC Legal's mission is to maximize lawful selection of products offered in our US and Canada online stores while minimizing unlawful selection, product regulatory risk to Amazon, and negative impact on customer trust. We regularly engage with regulators, selling partners, and external stakeholders about the health of our product-level compliance.

We are looking for someone who can contribute to the group's operational excellence by assisting with the execution of our compliance life cycle by demonstrating strong ownership of data analytics, data integrity, and data solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using very large datasets.
  • Experience writing complex Excel VBA macros.
  • Experience scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Perl, Ruby).
  • Experience with SQL or ETL.
  • Experience with reporting and Data Visualization tools such as Quick Sight / Tableau / Power BI or other BI packages.
  • Experience defining requirements and using data and metrics to draw business insights.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $47,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $107,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
