The Northrop Grumman Classified Solutions team is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to join its dynamic team of technical professionals in Baltimore, MD. Please note that the selected candidate will be required to work on-site, full-time, at our Linthicum, MD campus, and that this is not a virtual position.

The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems support team.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Perform primarily as a Linux Systems Administrator for a classified government contract.
  2. Support Windows Domains, ensuring Linux systems & accounts authenticate centrally & function as required.
  3. Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal and external customers, in written and verbal format.
  4. Maintain efficient operation of all IT infrastructure in the assigned Program area(s), including servers, clients, networking equipment, and software running on the network.
  5. Support multiple networks and ensure necessary IT administration tasks are completed independently as necessary.
  6. Analyze internal and external customer requirements and recommend equipment and software requirements for solutions to problems by means of automated systems.
  7. Recommend and implement system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system including installing, upgrading/patching, monitoring, problem resolution, and configuration management.
  8. Provide backup and recovery services; manage file systems and disk space; manage virus protection on a routine basis as directed by policy.
  9. Create and maintain user and computer accounts and modify file permissions as directed by policy.
  10. Test new releases of products to ensure compatibility and minimize user impact.
  11. Develop, maintain, and document technical processes and procedures as needed.
  12. Maintain security audit and logging information on all classified networked and standalone computers as directed by the Cyber Security team.
  13. Report project status as required for all recurring and non-recurring efforts.

Basic Qualifications for Level 2:

  1. Master's Degree with 0 years of IT experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of IT experience, or an Associate's Degree with 4 years of IT experience; a High School Diploma/GED with 6 years of IT experience may be considered in lieu of a completed degree.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  1. Master's Degree with 3 years of IT experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of IT experience, or an Associate's Degree with 7 years of IT experience; a High School Diploma/GED with 9 years of IT experience may be considered in lieu of a completed degree.

Basic Qualifications for Levels 2 and 3:

  1. Must have a DoD 8570 IAT Level II (or higher) certification (example: Security+ CE), otherwise an ability to obtain the required certification within 6 months of hire date; maintaining the required certification will be a condition of continued employment.
  2. Linux Operating Systems support experience.
  3. Linux Workstation and Server management experience.
  4. Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining computer hardware in a networked environment.

The selected candidate must have a DoD Interim Secret level security clearance (at a minimum) before a start date can be established; obtaining and maintaining a finalized DoD Secret security clearance will be a condition of continued employment.

Candidates must have the ability to obtain, and maintain, access to Special Programs as a condition of continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, a Security+ CE, either a Linux+ or RHCSA, and 5 years of Linux Server Administration experience in a classified environment.
  2. Experience operating under and managing systems within NISPOM Chapter 8, DCID 6/3-ICD 503, RMF, STIG, JAFAN, or JSIG.
  3. Linux Operating System certification for the current version.
  4. VMWare experience with current version.
  5. Knowledge of environmental monitoring tools (e.g., HBSS, Solar Winds, Splunk).
  6. Rudimentary Scripting experience.
  7. Experience with Certification & Accreditation process.
  8. DoD 8570 Certification in a primary OS (Windows, Linux, Cisco).
  9. Experience giving technical presentations to technical and non-technical attendees.
  10. Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  11. Ability to work after hours and on weekends as needed.
  12. Ability to travel as needed.
  13. Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.

Salary Range: $75,700 - $113,500
Salary Range 2: $93,000 - $139,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
