As a Medical Scribe at Boomerang Healthcare, your primary objective is to enhance the efficiency and productivity of the physicians you support, allowing them to devote their full attention to patient care. You play a pivotal role in the clinic by overseeing all clerical and information technology functions, with a particular focus on electronic health records and dictation systems. Anticipating physician needs to facilitate the clinic's smooth operation is also a key aspect of your role.
What you will do:
- Accurately and comprehensively documenting medical visits and procedures as they occur, including:
- Patient medical history and physical exams.
- Procedures and treatments conducted by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.
- Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.
- Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions, and self-care instructions for patients and their families.
- Preparing referral letters as directed by the physician.
- Managing dictation, faxing, phone calls, and various clerical tasks. This may include preparing referral letters, coordinating referrals, producing operative reports, making phone calls, managing the provider's schedule, and other assigned clerical duties.
- Identifying and rectifying errors or inconsistencies in medical documentation, with physician approval for all addenda.
- Ensuring the accurate recording of clinical data, lab results, and physician interpretations in the medical records. Promptly alerting physicians when a chart is incomplete.
- Adhering to specific standards for medical records style, legal, and ethical requirements, and maintaining patient information confidentiality.
- Collecting, organizing, and cataloging data for the physician quality reporting system and other quality improvement efforts. Assisting in developing and maintaining systems for tracking patient follow-up and compliance.
- Proofreading and editing all medical documents for accuracy, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Accompanying the provider to various offices as needed.
- Fulfilling any other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- High School diploma or GED.
- A certificate of completion in a certified Medical Assistant training program.
- Current BCLS certification with AED.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical clinic, hospital, or Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) setting.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and comprehending medical documentation.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Training will be provided for our software.
- Effective presentation of information, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for professional communication with patients, medical professionals, and co-workers.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to confidentiality (HIPAA), treatment, and safety guidelines.
- Ability to anticipate patient needs, proactively address them, and resolve issues within the scope of practice.
- A flexible, cooperative, and effective team member who is willing to assist others.
- Strongly preferred: Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
