Summary of Position:
The Meat Grinding Lead is a hands-on position reporting to the Meat Grinding Supervisor who is responsible for guiding either specific areas within the department or leading all meat grinding activities safely, accurately, and on-time in the absence of the of the Meat Grinding Supervisor. This position leads by example maintaining a positive, team member empowered environment where beneficial changes to departmental operations, safety and process are understood and embraced. Assisting with multi-departmental communication (to HR, other Ops leaders and Sales) is necessary to address pain-points and contribute to solutions.
Responsibilities
  • Have a working knowledge of all meat grinding activities.
  • Use Leader Standard Work (LSW) for daily, weekly, monthly tasks.
  • Assist with ensuring the execution of processes resulting in producing finished goods safely, accurately, and on-time to both internal and external customers.
  • Embrace a data driven approach to allocating resources and completing tasks.
  • Assist with communicating weekly grinding department schedule and daily assignments.
  • Be a daily mentor to production team members by encouraging good behaviors and coaching underperforming behaviors following Fortune's mission/vision/values.
  • Attend (and lead in place of Meat Grinding Supervisor) production room huddles to communicate and discuss safety, quality, productivity expectations (KPI's), and general current events with production staff.
  • Actively participate in weekly "check-ins" with the Meat Production Supervisor/Project & Integration Manager to clearly communicate pain-points/success stories regarding KPI's, staffing, team member performance, interdepartmental/company concerns and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Help create a safe working environment and supporting facility safety initiatives:
    • Understand and assist with ensuring the facility HACCP plan is followed daily.
    • Assist with the creation and training of Job Instructions (JI) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
    • Assist (and sometimes lead) employee and food safety corrective action investigations.
  • Assists the Meat Grinding Supervisor communication effort for the department:
    • Daily communication with other meat room leaders.
    • Sales/Warehouse staff concerning product outs, shorts/allocations and other customer satisfaction considerations.
    • Purchasing concerning raw material issues.
    • HR regarding timeclock and general personnel discussions.
    • Maintenance/Sanitation ensuring the smooth operation of production room equipment.
  • Collaborate with room leaders embracing training opportunities.
  • Participate in inventory control activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 1 plus years of foodservice production experience.
  • Good communication skills in English (written and verbal).
  • Basic understanding and ability to use MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions and supervising instructions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work flexible and/or extended hours, when needed.
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching: Bending body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower position to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position - to - position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palms.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause workers to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
