Join a collaborative Legal Department where your contributions are crucial to the ambitious goals of our growing business. The VP P&C Legal will lead a talented team of lawyers and legal professionals supporting the US business unit. You will provide advice and counsel on a broad array of legal issues, with a focus on product, marketing and advertising, and insurance regulatory matters. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and manage attorneys and legal professionals on the P&C Legal team, developing talent and promoting a culture of integrity and teamwork in line with the Hiscox values. Responsible for performance management and professional development of the team.
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel to senior business and legal colleagues on regulatory matters and developments of significant impact, working proactively with the business to support compliance and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversight of regulatory complaint management and company response to regulatory inquiries; lead management of regulatory audits including financial and market conduct.
  • Collaborate with functional areas such as UW, Claims, Risk, Marketing and Compliance to support marketing and product initiatives, ensuring high quality legal support with respect to product innovation, marketing campaigns and incentives, policy form and endorsement drafting, and regulatory and coverage guidance.
  • Strong partnership with State Filings to maintain product library and facilitate filing approvals.
  • Maintain close working relationships with internal clients, working strategically and in collaboration with various business areas to resolve legal issues, provide solution-oriented legal advice, and mitigate risk.
  • Contribute to process improvements and assist with legal budget management to meet departmental goals and drive cost-effective results.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of P&C insurance industry experience in a law firm and/or in house legal department, with at least 2+ years of people management experience.
  • JD from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in at least one state. 
  • Ability to develop and execute legal strategy and objectives.
  • Strong understanding of contract principles, insurance law, and regulatory requirements applicable to the P&C industry.
  • Ability to build strong cross functional relationships with internal clients.
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior stakeholders on complex legal matters within short timeframes.
  • Superior business judgment, time management skills, and ability to manage and prioritize multiple matters and deadlines.

Please note that this position is hybrid and requires two (2) days in office each week. Position can be based in the following office locations:

  • Atlanta, GA (preferred)
  • Chicago, IL
  • Manhattan, NY

Salary range: $220k-$250k
