The Behavior Intervention Specialist provides a full range of behavioral and social emotional services benefiting BSD111 students and their families. The Behavior Intervention Specialist supports school-based teams by facilitating the problem-solving process, conducting assessments, communicating clearly with all stakeholders, offering professional development on evidence-based practices, providing team consultation, and directly implementing effective behavioral and social-emotional interventions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Master's degree preferred from an accredited college/university.
  2. Current Illinois State Teaching License w/LBS 1 and LBS II - Behavior Intervention Specialist preferred
  3. Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) - preferred
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  5. Knowledge of various classroom management strategies including positive behavior support
  6. Knowledge of and ability to implement de-escalation techniques
  7. Knowledge of and the ability to implement behavior management techniques
  8. Strong organizational skills
  9. Ability to multitask needs between multiple schools
  10. Knowledge of collaboration practices, team teaching practices, and special education
  11. Demonstrate a working knowledge of special education regulations including confidentiality requirements under the Illinois School Student Records Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and complaint resolution procedures.
  12. Demonstrate a working knowledge of federal and state statutes affecting the education of students with disabilities including The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Illinois School Code, 23 Illinois Administrative Code, and other landmark legislation and litigation.
  1. Ability to collect data and make course placement recommendation for students
  2. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with school administrators, staff, students, and families
  3. Ability to travel to multiple District buildings
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Prioritize and respond effectively to behavioral referrals received after initial interventions and data collection have occurred.
  2. Administers one-to-one and/or small group intensive behavior intervention to students
  3. Provide assistance with de-escalating student behaviors and reintegrating students back into the classroom
  4. Collaborates with teachers, administration, and families to help identify best practices and progress for individual students
  5. Establish and maintain regular communication/planning with all school personnel involved with each child. Work directly with all related service personnel as part of an integrated educational team.
  6. Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior
  7. Demonstrate expertise in the area of data collection and behavior analysis
  8. Provide training in the use of data collection, positive behavior supports, intervention techniques, and instructional methodologies to educational staff
  9. Assist staff in: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents
  10. Uses identified research-based interventions focuses specifically on individual student needs
  11. Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress
  12. Provides data to school teams and participates in meetings/decisions about student progress
  13. Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed
  14. Knowledge in interpretation of behavioral assessment tools
