Job Description
ASM Global, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for a Director of Sales and Events at the Shreveport Convention Center/Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisiana. Under the direction of the General Manager, the Director of Sales and Events primary responsibilities include the following functions in accordance with ASM policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Hires, trains, and supervises sales and event service staff.
  2. Supervises and provides support to Sales and Events Managers and other departments.
  3. Develops sales contracts and addendums and monitors compliance.
  4. Provides ongoing support and service to existing clients.
  5. Identifies and implements sales goals and objectives.
  6. Prepares creative Marketing and Sales Plan.
  7. Prepares statistics, reports, and budget presentations for the General Manager.
  8. Represents the facility at all industry-related Trade Shows.
  9. Creates, presents, and attends bid presentations in collaboration with hotel and/or CTB.
  10. Develops and manages marketing budget and media placement.
  11. Ensures successful event coordination activities by supervising and training Event Coordinator/Managers.
  12. Plans, organizes, and assigns all day-to-day work assignments for event coordinators.
  13. Researches, reviews, and recommends equipment, materials, and supplies required in providing event services and planning.
  14. Coordinates inside or outside service needs with food and beverage, decorator, and other vendors.
  15. Coordinates with the marketing department all media entry into the building before, during, or immediately following events.
  16. Coordinates with all departments as needed to manage events.
  17. Prepares Event Services departmental and estimated revenues.
  18. Maintains the proper image and generates positive public relations with patrons and staff.
  19. Works extended/irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  20. Prepares schedules and assigns events to the Event Managers.
  21. Meets with potential clients, advises them on the facility requirements, and negotiates sales of additional services.
  22. Works with internal service partners to provide quality service to customers.
  23. Serves as liaison for all facility clients to ensure the highest level of customer service for all external service providers.
  24. Manages meetings, tradeshows, conventions, and conferences contracted at the facility.
  25. Prepares annual budget for the department.
  26. Prepares reports of monthly calendar (21 day) and Event Overviews for distribution.
  27. Coordinates and conducts weekly production meetings with all staff.
  28. Coordinates and conducts pre-con meetings as needed.
  29. Develops policies and procedures for the Event Services Department and monitors their compliance.
  30. Establishes new standards of customer service by working with departments in the facility.
  31. All other duties as assigned.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises Sales and Events Managers and Coordinators in the Sales and Event Services Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM Global's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

  • B.S. in Hotel Management or related field.
  • 3-5 years Event Management experience in Convention Center or related venue.
  • 1-3 years supervisory experience desired.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • High aptitude for figures and advanced writing skills.
  • Professional presentation, appearance, and work ethic.
  • Excellent negotiation techniques.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of computers. Mastery knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

No certifications are required.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to adjust work schedule to coincide with events.
  • Ability to travel required.
  • Ability to travel extensively via air and auto required.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and some holidays in addition to normal business hours.
