Job Description
The HR Advisory Directors are responsible for developing, implementing, and driving HR advisory strategies and recommendations aligned with current and future needs of the lines of business they support. These leaders will be responsible for enabling our overall talent strategy by leading our team that focuses on empowering our people leaders with knowledge and capabilities, while advising and supporting our employees through their day-to-day journey, ensuring their voice is heard. They will be focused on supporting all people leaders and employees by activating our U.S. Bank culture and Core Values through policies and procedures’ interpretation, performance management, and administration of investigative support. They will also be charged with identifying employee and manager trends and themes across the organization and partnering with key stakeholders on recommended solutions that mitigate employee and labor relations risk for the organization and providing insights to Head of Advisory Services and the Heads of HR who support each business line.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for leading teams that advise and investigate employee and manager related issues in manners that align with the HR Advisory Services and our talent strategies, including building relationships with the line of business and Heads of HR to optimize understanding of the business.
- Drives strategies, processes, and solutions focused on leading through employee issues, both proactively and as they occur within the organization, ensuring appropriate levels of governance and due diligence to mitigate risk and maximizing workforce performance.
- Leverage and utilize data and analytics to identify emerging trends at both a macro and micro level; partner closely with Legal and/or Employee Relations to provide a complete picture of overall employee and manager issues to Heads of HR and Sr. Talent Consultants.
- Collaborate with key leaders and stakeholders across the organization (Other HR functions, Employee Relations, Legal, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Ethics, Fraud Investigations, etc.) with a continuous improvement mindset, sharing opportunities to better support the employee experience, including professional development, talent management, inclusive practices, etc.
- Provide guidance and decisions to HR advisors or investigators on escalated employee performance or disciplinary issues, investigation matters due process and review individual situation to recommend next steps and resolution.
- Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of advisory services and investigations by developing success criteria for operational practices around response and resolution of provided support and service.
- Support or investigate elevated cases and advise on recommendations and actions, effectively addressing difficult situations with executive savvy. Take decisive and well-rounded action in high-pressure situations, consulting with key stakeholders where appropriate.
- Refine and maintain employee relations case management system, including analyzing employee relations data and provide necessary reporting. Work closely with key partners and key stakeholders to identify broader organizational trends, strengths, and opportunities.
- Support consistent policy interpretation and application of HR policies. Partners with Employee Relations on potential policy violations; provide recommendation on policy updates to increase understanding and to reduce exceptions.
- Review elevated employee complaints or investigations, provide necessary coaching and complete necessary manager follow up if required; determine if escalation is appropriate to Employee Relations.
- Provide coaching and training to advisors and/or investigators via side-by-side coaching and development opportunities during investigations.
SPECIFICATIONS:
- Expertise in handling or advising on complex employee relations and/or investigative, compliance, ethics, and regulatory related issues.
- Demonstrates understanding in federal/state/local labor and employment laws, employee relations concepts, U.S. Bank policies and practices, and substantial experience in applying those principles to complex workplace issues.
- Strong analytical skills and related ability to identify and interpret data and create/recommend solutions.
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with all levels of employees and leadership, including Managing Committee.
- Must possess keen business judgment and credibility to support appropriate workplace changes considering investigative results and trend analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and judgment while working collaboratively with a variety of teams.
- Ability to lead and influence a team to deliver strong results while developing employees and managers through day-to-day interactions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related field or equivalent work experience.
- JD, advanced degree, or specialized training in labor/employee relations.
- 10+ years of employee relations, investigations, HR, or business-related experience.
- Four or more years of managerial experience.
