SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Working independently, with direction from Senior Security Officers and Security Supervisors the Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of employees, guests, and the protection of Guggenheim property and artwork.


SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. 1–2 years of security related experience, preferably in a customer service-oriented environment.
  2. Self-motivated team player with concise communication skills.
  3. Ability to collaborate with diverse implementation team is essential.
  4. Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  5. Ability to be proactive, use independent judgment and initiative.
  6. Must be able to hold and operate a fire extinguisher, after proper fire guard training.
  7. Must be able to perform building evacuations (up to 6 flights of stairs) swiftly and in accordance with museum's fire safety plan. Mandatory drills will be conducted throughout the year.
  8. Ability to interact professionally and respectably with all levels of staff and visitors while also enforcing Museum policies in a courteous manner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Protect the people, building and art from harm; Identify and report safety hazards, suspicious behavior, and other potential problems.
  2. Provide excellent customer service to all museum guests and maintain professional demeanor in all situations.
  3. Inform guests and staff of museum policies and enforce them appropriately.
  4. Report and document any incident related to guests, staff, the building or artwork.
  5. Readiness to work a variety of posts including galleries, coat room, wayfinding and main door.
    1. Galleries and wayfinding: Monitor and maintain the flow of guests.
    2. Coatroom: Secure guest’s belongings in museum’s coatroom; includes lifting bags and hanging jackets.
    3. Main door: facilitate guests’ entry screening process, set up stanchions and museum signage for public hours.
  6. Assist with emergency evacuations and perform fireguard duties as trained.

WORK DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Must be available to work weekends.
  2. Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
  3. Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties at any of the Guggenheim’s owned or leased properties upon request.
  4. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  5. Ability to remain alert at all times and to stand for multiple hours.
  6. Ability to move stanchions, coat racks and bins.

EDUCATION:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  1. Qualify for NYS Security Guard License and FDNY Fire Guard Certificate of Fitness; Museum can provide training and resources to obtain both licenses.

SALARY RANGE: $22.00 per hour
