You Are:

Most software developers, engineers, and architects get to build software systems. Very few get to say with a straight face: I'm reinventing banking, hospitality, logistics, or insurance. We're combining technology, industry expertise, and entrepreneurial experience to massively disrupt our clients' core businesses. We partner with our clients to propel them into the future and to help create better products and experiences for everyone.

We're doing this by leveraging the power of patterns (Anti-Corruption Layering, Strangler Fig, Microservices, Event Sourcing, etc.) and technologies (Kafka, Solace, Change Data Capture, Node.js, Go, Containerization, PaaS) to build cloud-native solutions for the enterprise based on modern event-driven architectures.

In this role as a Transformation Foundation Architect, you will be working alongside colleagues & client partners to solve some of the hardest problems in enterprise technology: Creating new foundations & core systems that enable the wider enterprise to operate on modern platforms in real-time. Most of this work follows Domain Driven Design methodology and Event Driven Architecture to build state-of-the-art highly resilient systems with functionality exposed through domain APIs and subscriptions to business events.

Our enterprise projects often require us to bridge and/or transform legacy systems to cloud-native modern to extend business functionality and unlock data; we use digital decoupling techniques to slowly and methodically hollow out the existing core and reimagine functionality, capturing and distributing data changes. This will include architecture & solution design, definition of specifications, creating & operating teams which set standards for development, and waste-walking the delivery quality to identify points of continuous improvement.

Preferred Background in 1 of the following industries:

Financial Services:

We are in the midst of helping clients fundamentally rethink how to transform 20+ years old systems and services in investment and core banking, payments, retirement and wealth management into modern cloud-native. The industry is at a crossroads and needs help from the outside to make the most efficient use of capital, retain customers in the face of emerging competition, and compete as the market rapidly changes. This also means a fundamental change to architecture, engineering, and delivery processes, and re-thinking once unshakeable assumptions.

We are looking for industry veterans who are tired of the status quo of being asked to fit new and exciting technologies into a delivery model for technology three generations ago. If you have a vision for next-generation financial systems, we have a place for you.

Specific Experience:

  • Minimum 3+ years working as a technologist in an industry-leading banking, payments, or capital markets firm OR has been in a key technical role in a demonstrably successful fintech product company.
  • Successful implementation or usage of emerging technology to solve a key financial industry business or critical system architecture problem.

OR

Aerospace/Defense:

Suppliers, manufacturers, and operators in a once-closed ecosystem area being challenged. This brings new partner possibilities & a market force for change to existing organizations. As the Aerospace & Defense industry looks to incorporate new technologies & processes into its physical space, it must also change the way it operates digitally, all while maintaining the same strict control and quality assurance required of this space.

If you're an industry veteran who wants to help bridge the gap from R&D/POA into product manufacturing with new digital services & ways of working, we have a place for you.

Specific Experience:

  • Minimum 3+ years working as a technologist in an industry-leading designer, supplier, or manufacturer OR has been in a key technical role in a demonstrably successful startup. Military service & experience are a welcome plus.
  • Successful implementation or usage of emerging technology to solve a key Aerospace/Defense industry business or critical system architecture problem.

OR

Supply Chain/Logistics:

In a world where Just-In-Time logistics is at odds with volatile global economics & disasters, our clients are desperate to build upon their existing expertise with a stronger ability to adapt real-time to changing situations. When the cost of redirecting cargo can fluctuate in minutes, management of supply chain and logistics must merge its short and long-term horizon. This means knowing where everything is in real-time and being able to redirect cargo across multiple channels at scale in minutes rather than hours. We are partnering with our clients to move terabytes of meaningful data in seconds and then have the engines to analyze and make decisions in minutes.

If you're an industry veteran who wants to stop running reports & start monitoring insights, or safeguard & track products from origin to destination every time, we have a place for you.

Specific Experience:

  • Minimum 3+ years working as a technologist in an industry-leading supply chain manager, retail logistics, or cargo logistics organization.
  • Successful implementation or usage of emerging technology to solve a key supply chain industry business or critical system architecture problem.

Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 25% to 100% depending on business need and client requirements.

What You'll Need:

  • Minimum 3+ years working as a technologist in an industry-leading supply chain manager, retail logistics, or cargo logistics organization.
  • Successful implementation or usage of emerging technology to solve a key supply chain industry business or critical system architecture problem.
  • Experience creating and operating engineering teams of 8-10 members.
  • Minimum 6+ years of hands-on experience building modern applications, or equivalent open source contribution (several projects as ongoing contributor).
  • Applications must be crafted using the listed preferred technologies/frameworks. Technologies like legacy C# or JEE would be outside of consideration.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in leading designing and building software systems, i.e., planning out infrastructure, cloud platform components, network details, etc.
  • Experience explaining complex technical concepts to an executive/non-technical audience. Example: If you can explain what event sourcing or the reactor pattern are to a layperson, you've got this.
  • Experience designing and leading engineering systems and DevOps, i.e., managing the process of building software.
  • Experience with at least one modern programming language (including but not limited to Go, JavaScript, Java, dotnet core).
  • Experience with the SDLC lifecycle & knowledge of relevant tools (Including but not limited to Azure DevOps, Jenkins, git, GitHub, Gitlab, Atlassian products).
  • Experience with using at least one major public cloud provider.
  • Basic understanding of Cloud & Hybrid networking.
  • Understanding and experience in agile project management and delivery.
  • Deep knowledge of one or more industry areas (e.g., Hospitality, Banking, Aerospace, Retail, Supply Chain).
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 12 years) work experience. (If Associates Degree, must have minimum 6 years work experience).

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience with more than one programming language (JavaScript, Go, Python, dotnet core preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure; namely choosing platform components and assembling application and runtime architecture.
  • Experience with serverless architecture.
  • Experience with microservices architectures and constituent technologies (Flask, gokit, Spring Cloud).
  • Experience with containerization and container platforms (e.g., Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, K3S, Rancher).
  • Experience with Event Driven Architectures and constituent technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis) and patterns (Event Sourcing, etc.).
  • Experience with distributed transactional data stores (CockroachDB, Spanner, ScyllaDB, Percona, MongoDB).
  • Active participation in Open source projects.

Professional Skills:

  • Strong Critical Thinking, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills. You will be expected to communicate business value for all technical solutions all the way to the C-Suite in some cases.
  • Initiative-taking is required. You will likely be given an objective, some constraints, and enough detail to get started. After that, we will expect you to solve problems without hand-holding.
  • Demonstrated leadership, comradery, and teamwork in a multi-cultural professional setting.
  • Curiosity and a desire to continuously learn.
