As a Backend Kafka Engineer at Platypus, you will immediately play an integral role in building out, scaling, and optimizing our platform. You will join our fast-growing team as the first Backend Kafka engineer that can build and shape the future direction of our product in delivering outstanding event-driven streaming applications.
What you’ll do
As a Backend Kafka Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Design, build, test, scale, support, and frequently refine new product features and services.
- Quickly develop, test, and iterate new feature ideas. You’ll own what you build through the entire product lifecycle.
- Work with external vendor technology APIs, and libraries for integration.
- Standardize and evolve our event-driven Business Rules Management Platform.
- Work closely with our CTO to design and improve our event-driven architecture.
About you
Must have
- A scrappy entrepreneurial attitude, with a good understanding of the tradeoffs between quality, performance, and time to ship.
- Experience with Kafka and Kafka Streams Java APIs.
- Solid foundation in Kafka architectures - Connect, Schema Registries, Processors, Topics, Retention Spaces,...
- Experience with either Spring or Quarkus frameworks.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or MS Azure.
- Experience with RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL,...) and SQL language.
- Working knowledge of version control systems such as GIT.
- Passion for new Challenges, Quality and Engineering, with a can-do attitude.
Nice to have:
- Prior experience working at an early-stage startup.
- Experience managing and querying Kafka resources as well as developing DevOps processes for Kafka.
- Working knowledge of open source configuration of monitoring systems such as Nagios, Sensu or Prometheus.
- Working knowledge of deploying into production Kafka systems using Kubernetes for high events per second throughput.
- Working knowledge in JavaScript and Python.
