Activities Director - Missouri School for the Deaf, 505 E. 5th St., Fulton, MO 65251

Salary: $45,984 annually

An 11-month, exempt position responsible for directing and coordinating all athletic and academic activities. This person reports to the Community Relation Facilitator.

Essential Functions:

The incumbent must have the ability to perform the essential functions below either with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Serves as the Athletic Director. Provides administrative direction and oversight for all athletic programs and activities including all athletic and activity policies and procedures and developing and maintaining open lines of communication between coaches/sponsors, athletes/participants, and administration.
  • Supervises the control, issuance and maintenance of athletic equipment and facilities. This includes cleaning, repairs, storage, and security of all athletic equipment. As well as keeping an inventory of all athletic equipment and supervising the replacement of equipment as needed.
  • Ensures compliance of all the programs with MSHSAA standards, including carrying out all governing responsibilities related to the activities program, and coordinating and authorizing payment of all MSHSAA fees.
  • Check and ensure student-athlete meets MSHSAA eligibility standards.
  • Manages athletic budgets, contracts all content officials, and coordinates the cancellation or postponements and rescheduling of contests due to weather or other valid reasons.
  • Recruits coaches and sponsors for all sports and academic clubs; observes and evaluates coaches in both practice and game situations; makes recommendations to coaches and sponsors regarding their professional development; ensure coaches meet requirements as set forth by the MSHSAA.
  • Responsible for developing schedules for fall, winter, and spring sporting events; scheduling facilities for practices, contests, and events, and preparing schedules for publication.
  • Supervises coaches/sponsors, monitor performance, and problem solve as necessary. Work with coaches to develop all pep rally and homecoming events.
  • Obtain and supervise all personnel for the various roles needed to have contests, including the public address system, scoring, timing, ticket sales, concession stand, and necessary medical personnel.
  • Make recommendations to their direct supervisor for the improvement of athletic facilities and programming needs.
  • Coordinate with maintenance supervisor of any needed maintenance with the stadium, gym, track, etc.
  • Supervise and direct the planning of all award programs, maintaining records of awards won by students, as well as record books for all athletic programs.
  • Assist the Community Relation Facilitator disseminating articles and newsletter, internally and externally, to inform staff, parents, educators, contributors, and other partners of the activities, programs and accomplishments of staff and students.
  • Assists in the promotion and coordination of activities and events both internally and externally.
  • Assists with maintaining the MSD website.
  • May be required to coach.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

  • Able to complete multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
  • Public speaking skills with the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Resourceful and well organized.
  • American Sign Language competency level of Advanced.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of Deaf/HH children and adults.
  • Desktop publishing experience/website construction/graphic arts experience.
  • Flexibility in work hours which may include some weekend activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in education or related field.
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL with a Class S endorsement (school bus driver’s license).

OR

  • 4 years of professional experience working with children in a School for the Deaf setting.
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL with a Class S endorsement (school bus driver’s license).
