Job Description

The Vice President of Operations Excellence serves as a hands-on driver of change within the business. To be successful in this role, you must impact profitable, sustainable growth by engaging employees and leveraging tools and methodologies required to drive excellence at all levels of the enterprise.

The ideal candidate will possess a mastery of transformational change, operational efficiency, Lean principles, project management, data-driven decision-making, and delivering on results.

Further, understanding the numbers behind the business (e.g., P&L statement, balance sheet, net working capital, et al.) is critical to realize the full potential of delivering measurable results. You must know which levers to pull to ensure beneficial outcomes.

This role will have high visibility across the business, including the Executive Leadership Team, while working to deliver significant financial benefits.

Responsibilities

Direct responsibility

  • Functions that will report directly to the VP Operations Excellence include Continuous Improvement, Program Management, Project Management Office, Scheduling, Warehouse, Logistics and Intake.
  • Ensure quality is designed into the production process.

Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Lead the development and implementation of an operational strategy that delivers significant business performance improvement.
  • Deploy Lean manufacturing principles across all service lines.
  • Facilitate best practice sharing and work standards across the operational network.
  • Establish operations KPI’s and scorecards to drive performance improvement, including safety, quality, on-time delivery, productivity, lead time, throughput and EBITDA.
  • Continuously remove waste, friction, and frustration from operational processes.

Technology assessment and development

  • Leverage a deep understanding of tools and systems to advance processes and automation.
  • Drive changes needed within and across systems to support optimal workflow.
  • Identify and implement emerging technology to be incorporated into operational capabilities.

Communication

  • Collaborate with business partners (across functions) to ensure successful project implementation through the deployment of PM tools, processes, and personnel.
  • Manage relationships and communication between internal and external project management resources, stakeholders, and senior management.

Experience, abilities and education

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in operational excellence/continuous improvement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Successful track record of implementing Lean methodologies.
  • Strong change management capabilities with emphasis on team behavior change needed to sustain business process improvement.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and project management skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to effectively manage multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a matrix organization, able to motivate and inspire team members to high performance levels.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Lean principles such as Value Stream Mapping, Visual Management, Continuous Flow and 5S.
  • Experience facilitating and coaching kaizen events.
  • Ability to solve practical problems in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload, and respond to changing business demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with team members, management, and internal/external partners.
  • Ability to lead and support cross-functional teams to deliver on business goals.
