Job Title: Systems Engineer 2 – Distributed & Cloud Systems

Location: Occasional Onsite in Dalton, GA (On-call rotation - 2 weeks on-call every 12 weeks)

Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer 2 with expertise in distributed and cloud systems to support infrastructure and cloud operations. This role requires thought leadership, strong technical abilities, and the capacity to influence across teams.
Essential Duties:
1. Infrastructure Maintenance
- Design and maintain IT infrastructure focused on operational improvements.
- Optimize system configurations and execute upgrades.
- Conduct performance analysis and plan for future enhancements.
2. Project Support
- Collaborate on key business and technical projects.
- Provide architecture recommendations and assist in debugging and problem resolution.
- Lead specific technical projects, offering research, testing, and certification of new technologies.
3. System Resiliency
- Ensure operational readiness for infrastructure support.
- Assist with system troubleshooting, diagnostic tracing, and incident management.
- Develop scripts, workflows, and automation for infrastructure environments.
4. Configuration and Provisioning
- Install, configure, and maintain cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Manage server environments (Linux, Windows, Unix) and application servers (Tomcat, JBoss, IIS).
- Automate tasks using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
- Ensure security measures using tools like Azure Sentinel and Azure Defender.
5. Operational Preparation
- Execute changes based on documented plans and schedules.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and provide technical advice.
6. Additional Responsibilities
- Promote a positive, collaborative environment within the team.
- Communicate progress, identify problems, and propose solutions.
- Continuously improve and document processes and workflows.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years in system administration or engineering roles.
- Proficiency in distributed systems, cloud architectures, and database management.
- Strong scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, Datadog, Splunk).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Passion for automation and security-first principles.
- Experience with cloud-native microservices and infrastructure-as-code concepts (Terraform).
- Ability to handle multiple projects and competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and excellent communication abilities.
