Join Our Team as a Power Trader

Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in the fast-paced world of energy trading? As a Power Trader, you will be at the forefront of managing daily and term transactions for TEA’s California clients, ensuring seamless operations for both load and generation. In this dynamic position, you’ll collaborate closely with a team of Power Traders and Portfolio Managers to meet critical deadlines and drive business success. This role demands a goal-oriented, detail-focused, and well-organized individual who thrives in a team environment, even when working unorthodox schedules.

What You’ll Do:

  1. CAISO Submissions and Scheduling:
    1. Submit client supply and demand bids and ISTs in CAISO, ensuring accurate and timely entries.
    2. Communicate with external marketers and schedulers to confirm delivery and duration of term transactions.
    3. Coordinate with generators and the CAISO Gen desk to manage generation schedules effectively.
    4. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of TEA client resource portfolios and support evening and/or weekend on-call duties as needed.
  2. Resource Adequacy (RA) Procurement:
    1. Maintain discussion with clients through monthly formal meetings (RMT/EROC), and ad hoc meetings as necessary to determine RA procurement strategy and goals of each client.
    2. Engage the market to purchase or sell RA on behalf of clients, including discussion of needs to buy or sell, and introduction, negotiation, and execution of transaction confirmation.
    3. Run and participate in RFOs/RFBs, engage with counterparties bilaterally, maintain conversation with brokers.
    4. Stay up to date on RA policy changes.
  3. Analysis and Process Improvements:
    1. Perform ad-hoc analysis to support the trading team and suggest adjustments to client load forecasts.
    2. Assist with the continuous development and enhancement of TEA’s tools and processes, including testing new tools as markets evolve.
    3. Play a key role in automating manual processes and providing feedback on the STORA optimization model.
  4. Training and Development:
    1. Serve as a subject matter expert on RTO rules for TEA and its CAISO clients.
    2. Attend CAISO and other RTO Market and Technology training sessions; prepare and deliver presentations to TEA and clients.
    3. Participate in CAISO market meetings and relevant policy initiatives to stay ahead of industry changes.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university.
  2. Five years of relevant work experience, particularly in trading, asset management, resource adequacy, accounting, or finance, is highly desired.
  3. Basic understanding of RTO markets, especially CAISO.
  4. Experience trading in bilateral and/or other markets, with a strong grasp of business processes and attention to detail.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills and experience communicating complex concepts to clients.
  6. Proficiency in Excel and the ability to manipulate data effectively.
  7. Ability to learn and utilize a wide variety of internal and external systems.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  1. Knowledge of renewable asset management.
  2. Understanding of battery and hybrid participation in CAISO.

Compensation:

  1. Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
  2. Level 1 compensation: $113,654 - $153,768.
  3. Annual target short-term incentive rate of 30% of base salary based on corporate, team, and individual performance.
  4. Paid time off starting at 17 days per year, plus nine paid holidays.
