Job Summary

The Network Administrator within the University of California, San Francisco's (UCSF) Information Technology (IT) department will be entrusted with managing and maintaining UCSF's network wired services to ensure seamless connectivity and efficient communication across campus. Working closely with colleagues and stakeholders, the Network Administrator will play a crucial role in implementing and supporting network solutions that meet the evolving needs of our organization. The Network Administrator's expertise will be instrumental in troubleshooting network issues, optimizing performance, and implementing security measures to safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of UCSF data.

This role will positively impact UCSF's operations and culture by ensuring UCSF's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university's academic, medical, and research mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $84,400 - $180,000 (Annual Rate).

The Network Services team within Infrastructure Services holds a critical role in managing, maintaining, and developing UCSF's network infrastructure, particularly ensuring reliable technical accessibility for individuals engaged in vital medical and health research work.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent combination of experience/training in one or more of the following fields: computer science, engineering, computer information systems, etc.
  • 3 years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: network services, information technology or network operations.
  • Experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting network devices such as routers, switches, wireless networking equipment, load balancers, DDI platforms, and/or network monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and SNMP.
  • Understanding of various network hardware platforms, network-related protocols, and software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional communications and network concepts necessary to resolve issues using established parameters, creativity and independent judgment, escalating as necessary.
  • Ability to gather, organize and analyze data in the completion of a variety of functional assignments.
  • Proven ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in one or more of the following fields: computer science, engineering, computer information systems, etc.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts and experience working with cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Experience with network automation and scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
  • Understanding of ITIL framework and its application in network management and service delivery.

License/Certification

  • Network +, CCNA, or equivalent Aruba Certifications, ITIL
