The goal of Denver Community Corrections is to teach participants practical skills and tools needed to be successful upon reentry into the community. Emphasis is placed on interventions that specifically address criminogenic risk/needs by using social learning, skill-building activities to assist with cognitive, social, emotional, and coping skill development. This research-informed program uses strategies and techniques to work with adult male participants.
For this position, candidates can expect to work in any of the facilities based on the needs of the department. These facilities include: MOORE Center, Project: Elevate and IMACT Center. Interested applicants must be available to work non-traditional shifts and workdays. This role will be responsible for an assigned caseload of participants. Successful candidates must complete and pass a background investigation that encompasses the applicant's employment and criminal history.
Job responsibilities will include:
  • Monitoring of participants during structured activities.
  • Model pro-social behaviors and providing on-going behavior change feedback to participants.
  • Individual meetings with participants to address their individual criminogenic needs.
  • Responding to behavioral rules violations through behavioral interventions and support plan development.
  • Developing plans to support the individual responsivity needs of participants.
  • Attend weekly team meetings.
  • Documenting individual and group participant interactions.
  • Providing referrals as appropriate to address criminogenic needs.
  • Completing the Standardized Offender Assessment -Revised (SOA-R).
  • Completing case plans in collaboration with the participant.
  • Completing reports for referral agencies.
  • Discharge planning with the participant.
  • Participating in ongoing training to further enhance working with the population served.
  • Direct care and facilitation of cognitive behavioral groups with the participant population.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Our ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience working in Community Corrections or with a Criminal Justice Involved Population.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of research and interviewing techniques sufficient to be able to determine what information is needed, secure and analyze desired information, and formulate logical recommendations. Consistent attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
  • Commitment to working collaboratively within a team to ensure work is completed timely.
  • Motivation to work with high risk/high need clients and ability to demonstrate a healthy working alliance with clients to assist them with behavior change and risk reduction.
Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position:
  • Education Requirement: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Human Services, Public Administration, or a related field required.
  • Experience Requirement: Two (2) years' experience as a Correctional Case Specialist I, or in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
  • Education and Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • License/Certification Requirement: Possession of, or ability to obtain, Adult CPR, AED, Naloxone, and First Aid certifications after date of hire. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
