Job Requirements / Description
The Chief Medical Officer oversees and directs the medical services at Jordan Valley as outlined in the policies and procedures created by the Executive Director and Executive Vice Presidents, as well as the following state, federal, and local requirements. The CMO has direct oversight of the medical directors of each department. He / She is intimately involved in operations that affect clinical care and growth strategies to expand the care provided.

Required graduate of an accredited medical school and completed at least a three-year residency in a primary care specialty - Pediatrics, Family Medicine, OB/GYN, or Internal Medicine
- Must have at least one (1) year of experience managing major clinical activities in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or other medical facility.
- State license to practice medicine, including prescriptive privileges.
- Current Missouri license to practice medicine.
- Current DEA number.
- Must be fully eligible to participate in federal, state, and private insurance plans.
- Current BLS or ACLS Certificate required.
Required Knowledge:
- Medicine and Dentistry - Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
- Biology - Knowledge of plant and animal organisms, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment.
- Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Psychology - Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

Essential Functions:
- Facilitate communication between clinical and operational leadership. One of the primary purposes of this role is to help clinical staff understand operational protocols/practices and guide them to learn what they can do in their role to influence/support those protocols/practices. The opposite of this is true as well. This role will need to help operational staff understand clinical protocols/practices and help guide them to work with and support clinical staff to provide the best care possible to our patients.
- Recommend to the President/CEO and COO programmatic direction, clinical staffing needs, and equipment/supply needs of the clinic
- Support, consult, and lead key programmatic change in the clinical arena as approved by the President/CEO, COO, or Board of Directors.
- Make written/oral reports to the COO, President/CEO, and Board of Directors, as required, concerning operations of the Medical Department.
- Assist in the recruitment of qualified physicians and additional staff to reach the goals of JVCHC. Ensure that this is a priority for Medical Directors to assist in your absence or based on your direction.
- This will require developing and prioritizing a recruiting plan based on the organization's needs. Recruiting/HR can assist with this process and maintain the plan. The plan will need to be developed taking into consideration the strategy and vision gained from the COO/President/CEO.
- Assure after-hours, weekend, and holiday coverage by establishing a rotating call schedule within reasonable limits, as the COO or President/CEO agreed.
- Attend all required in-service training programs, staff meetings, and provider contract negotiations.
- Be responsible for the dispensing of controlled substances: administering handling, inventory, and record-keeping by the clinic's Controlled Medication Policy
- Develop and maintain written job performance evaluations for the medical personnel and medical directors.
- Oversee and support the nursing care of clinical programs at JVCHC. Portions of this may need to be directed to Medical Directors, but ultimately, this position is responsible.
- Assist fellow clinicians as necessary to facilitate effective and timely health care to the patients of JVCHC.
- Develop, maintain, and interpret written clinical policies and procedures for employees, patients, visitors, governmental agencies, etc.
- Advise on medical information systems needs; investigate, develop, and recommend options.
- Implement grant activities and ensure the clinical goals are attained
- Participate, as appropriate, in conjunction with the nurse manager, in the periodic review of practice management functions (e.g. reception, telephone triage, patient flow, laboratory, tracking systems, etc.)
- Review patient satisfaction surveys and recommend modifications.
- Manages overtime and expense by appropriately using resources available.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the Clinic's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
