Housing Specialist (TEMP)
The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) was established in 1974 to better respond to the County's need for affordable housing. HOC is authorized to acquire, own, lease, and operate housing; to provide for the construction or renovation of housing; obtain financial assistance from any public or private source to assist its housing activities; and arrange for social services, resident services, and daycare.
Job Description:
HOC is seeking a Temp Housing Specialist for a 4 to 6-month project. This will be a 40-hour-per-week opportunity.
The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Housing Specialist to join our team. The Housing Specialist will determine eligibility and continued participation for HOC Housing Choice Voucher applicants and families.
Responsibilities:
Interviewing clients, certifying, recertifying annuals and interims, processing rent increase requests, and negotiating rent amounts with landlords.
Completing data entry, and advising participants and landlords of program rules and regulations.
Provide customer service to internal and external customers.
Market the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
Monitor clients for program compliance.
Submit referrals as needed.
Incumbent must have transportation as this position may work from various office locations.
Great sense of customer service and professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Strong communication skills and good customer service are required.
Knowledge of, or the ability to acquire knowledge of, subsidized housing program guidelines and federal, state and local landlord-tenant laws is necessary.
Experience in the Housing Choice Voucher, or other subsidized program is a plus.
Must have great verbal and written communication skills.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, knowledge of Google AODocs is a plus.
Education:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Business Administration, Public Administration, Government or a related field.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
* Salary Range: Housing Specialist Temp ($25-$28/hourly)| Salary determined by departmental budget- Offer commensurate with experience
