JAS is an international, non-asset-based supply chain services and solutions company. Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage, and other supply chain management services, including consulting, the coordination of purchase orders, and customized management services.
This role is responsible for the management and oversight of the air export department to ensure the movement of air freight out of the country is in accordance with organizational policy and procedures, and in compliance with relevant local, country, and international law and processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage and develop efficient and effective flow of work to attain optimum efficiency and productivity of department.
- Identify the cause of problems and provide effective solutions.
- Utilize appropriate reporting methods to quantify and prioritize workload. Managing JAS operational and customers (KPIs) Key Performance Indicators.
- Manage communication with export related authorities and customer and suppliers in all relevant countries as necessary to ensure efficient, positive and lawful relations, support and activities.
- Audit departments’ files to ensure accuracy and completion.
- Work with other departments in order to establish and maintain effective and relevant export activities and support in relation to the organizations operating functions.
- Initiate, promote, support and implement change in order to increase organizational effectiveness.
- Make sound decisions based on analysis, experience and good judgment.
- Ensure staff has the appropriate training and resources necessary to perform their jobs.
- Responsible for branch TSA compliance.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Incumbent will directly and/or indirectly supervise one or more employees.
- Conduct performance evaluations for export department staff.
- Recommend hiring, terminations and promotions of department employees.
- Identify and resolve personnel issues.
- Create an environment that encourages others to develop professionally.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
- Detail oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated, able to work with a team and also independently.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance with export rules and regulations.
- Able to perform the essential duties of this position without posing a “direct threat” to the health or safety of self or others.
- Able to interact positively and effectively with co-workers, subordinates and supervisors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 8-10 years relevant Air Export, and freight forwarding experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years supervisory experience.
- Cargowise (C1) experience is preferred.
- Must have strong understanding of US Export Compliance.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of procedures for international and domestic freight, trucking and warehouse services.
ENVIRONMENT:
100% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions. Travel will be (up to 15%) required in support of the position’s responsibilities.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds. This position requires employee to frequently work in a fluid, fast-paced environment.

The base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $130,000 annually, in accordance with the California pay transparency law.
This pay range represents the low and high end of the salary we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual pay within this range is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, education, skills, and performance. Our goal is to ensure fair and equitable compensation for all employees.
