Contract Length: 9 Month,
Salary: Depending upon experience, education, and licensure level
Purpose: To first identify, then help students and their families overcome obstacles in following State and ZPSD attendance policies. To meet with parents/guardians, their students, and school administrator(s) in order to collaboratively develop workable strategies addressing chronic absenteeism. To follow State and District guidelines in the preparation of excessive absence notification letters, to make home visits when necessary, and to arrange intervention team meetings that may be composed of: students, parents/guardians, counselor, attendance mentor, home school liaison, and administrator(s).
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Either have, or be able to obtain, a 520 (bi-lingual) license
AND
  • Must be willing to take post-secondary classes in social sciences (Psychology, Sociology), Law Enforcement, or Education;
  • Must have a Valid NM Drivers License and be willing to take a District sponsored class in "Defensive Driving";
  • Experience with computers: the ability to enter data in computers, utilize interactive computer panel and Microsoft Office programs(s) including Google suite; familiarity with databases, spreadsheets, and word processors
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with students, peers and parents;
  • Ability to communicate with students and parents both orally and in writing in the English language;
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations;
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of parents and students;
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to an attendance mentoring program;
  • Ability to be confidential;
  • Able to perform the following essential duties, physical and mental functions and utilize the essential equipment of the position with or without reasonable accommodation;
Essential Duties:
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
  • Employs a variety of motivational techniques, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved;
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct as it applies towards regular school attendance
  • Assesses the accomplishment of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required;
  • Evaluates pupils' attendance patterns, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports;
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standard of school attendance behavior;
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations;
  • Communicates regularly with parents and students by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.;
  • Is available to students and parents for attendance-related purposes;
  • Provides before and after school duty as assigned;
  • Reviews and analyzes data to evaluate the students' attendance progress and areas of needed improvement;
  • Serves on District Committees, School Activities and Functions as assigned;
  • Performs other duties as assigned on a timely basis.
Physical Functions:
  • Frequently required to drive, stand, talk, hear and sometimes walk and sit;
  • Hand and eye coordination in operating computer
  • Usually works on even surfaces, may walk on uneven surfaces outdoors;
  • Exposed to various degrees of noises. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • May work in close proximity of other individuals;
  • General vision, corrected to 20/20, reads a multitude of records, correspondence and data. Ability to adjust focus from various school tools to include: (interactive computer panel, computer, typed material).
Mental Functions:
Must be able to:
  • interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form;
  • deal with students and parents in such a way to maintain their goodwill;
  • respond appropriately to student behavior;
  • respond appropriately to supervision and accept recommendations;
  • communicate both orally and in writing, in English;
  • effectively present information and respond to questions from students; parents, peers and supervisor.
Essential equipment:
  • Equipment available for the job will include: computer, interactive computer panel, projectors, copiers, phone, fax, calculator, printer, scanner, etc.
  • Large files, paper, writing utensils, and staples
