Kodiak was founded in April 2018 to develop autonomous technology that carries freight forward—so people, partners, and the planet thrive. Navigating highway environments presents vastly different challenges than urban streets. Kodiak’s experienced team has developed the industry’s most advanced technology stack purpose-built specifically for long-haul trucks. From our sensor fusion system that maximizes the value of every sensing modality, to our unique lightweight mapping solution that allows our trucks to navigate ever-changing highway construction zones, our world-class team of industry pioneers is bringing the benefits of autonomy to the $800B a year trucking industry quickly, safely, and efficiently.
We are looking for a Sensor Hardware Engineer to join us and help develop world-class sensor and compute systems for autonomous trucking. This role will focus on optimizing camera performance and developing embedded AI computing requirements.
In this role you will:
- Work cross-functionally to define system requirements for an autonomous driving compute.
- Collaborate with external partners to specify and build embedded compute and sensor processing hardware.
- Create requirements for sensor synchronization based on an understanding of sensor capabilities.
- Research and evaluate the latest in embedded AI hardware and automotive camera technologies.
- Develop and execute hands-on camera tests to help define vehicle architecture and improve perception performance.
- Assist with sensor integration onto the vehicle and debugging issues that arise.
- Manage relationships with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and external partners.
- Work with the perception team to identify, understand, and solve sensor performance issues.
- Strong technical background. BS or MS, or equivalent experience, in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related fields with 5+ years of experience in the automotive, aerospace or related industry. Experience with defining autonomous-driving compute system and/or working within the camera optical and image processing pipeline is a strong plus. Software experience (especially for data analysis) is a plus but not required.
- A team leader. Whether formally or informally, you have previously played the lead role on several projects. You take ownership and drive the team to deliver exceptional results.
