Frames Department Manager – Optical Lab

Dr. Tavel Optical Group is a family-owned and operated company with 24 locations throughout Indiana. With over 80 years of experience, we continue to provide affordable, insurance-friendly designer eyewear while maintaining a fast-paced and innovative work environment.

We are currently seeking a Frames Department Manager for our state-of-the-art optical lab. This is a salaried, full-time position with a work schedule of Monday through Friday, 1st shift. The Frames Department Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day workflow and ensuring the smooth operation of the department.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day workflow of orders through the Frames Department, ensuring timely completion.
  • Provide coverage for employees who call off, including tasks such as pulling frames, logging stock, and requesting frames from retail locations.
  • Work with vendors to handle open order reports and resolve issues.
  • Oversee inventory management at both the distribution center and retail locations.
  • Enter new frame products into multiple software systems.
  • Plan and schedule frame swaps in coordination with the Director and Frames Department staff.
  • Troubleshoot computer system issues, and patient orders, and assist retail locations as needed.
  • Collaborate with Lab Managers to improve processes and procedures within the department.
  • Respond to frame-related emails and inquiries that staff members are unsure of how to handle.
  • Perform managerial tasks including timecards, performance improvement plans (PIPs), corrective actions, and staff development.
  • Handle other projects as assigned by the Director.

  • Domain Knowledge: Understanding of inventory management and frame distribution processes in a retail and lab environment.
  • Self-Management: Ability to work independently and manage day-to-day operations with minimal supervision.
  • Team Leadership: Proven ability to manage and grow a team of 6 staff members while fostering a positive and productive work environment. Ability to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously. Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering solutions efficiently.
  • Creativity: Ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to improve processes and workflows.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new software systems.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively collaborating with external vendors, internal staff, and management.
