Overview
ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB's Traffic Operations team is looking for a versatile Transportation Engineer to join our growing Transportation practice.
The ideal candidate can work in a hybrid setup from VHB's RI, CT, or Worcester, MA offices. This arrangement involves working in the office three days a week.
Responsibilities
- Work within a team of professionals to develop traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of transportation projects
- Prepare written planning documents including traffic-safety studies, road safety assessments, transportation planning and scoping documents.
- Conduct field observations. Tabulate and analyze traffic and safety data.
- Develop preliminary and final design plans and cost estimates.
- Develop safety solutions which consider all users, including motorists, bicyclists, public transit users and pedestrians of all ages and abilities.
- Assess countermeasure recommendations using traffic engineering and operational analysis tools.
- Document and communicate findings from field observations and data collection with clients and public stakeholders.
Skills and Attributes
- Working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in civil engineering looking to apply these skills to identify innovative solutions.
- Knowledge of local and state regulations governing site design.
- Skilled in industry-standard engineering design and analysis systems (e.g., CAD, GIS, traffic simulation).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
- Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-5 years of engineering experience
- 5-8 years of engineering experience preferred
- BS in Civil Engineering
- Engineer in Training certification or ability to obtain within 6 months, preferred
- Professional Engineer or ability to obtain within 1 year is a plus
- Experience with traffic capacity analysis software (Synchro, HCS) preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation required and GIS experience a plus
