Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is looking for a motivated person to perform Locksmith duties in support of protecting NNL's people, data, and facilities. The main roles of the Locksmith are to maintain the extensive lock and key control systems at NNL's New York locations, to ensure that high priority lock and key control issues are expeditiously addressed, and team with the other Locksmiths to achieve commonality and consistency amongst the other NNL locations.

Some roles and responsibilities are:
Installing, repairing, and maintaining various lock and key control systems, including combination locking devices/safes.
Rekeying key cores and lock cylinders and fabricating keys.
Maintaining key and combination records and coordinating/performing periodic inventory audits.
Maintaining locksmith machinery, shop tools, and lock system inventory at sufficient levels.
Preparing and issuing keys, locks, and containers.
Approving site lock and key procurements.
Adhering to all governing DOE orders and manuals.
Field installation and repairs.

This selected candidate will need to interface with diverse disciplines, organizations, and customers. The candidate will also need to work indoors and outdoors, as well as on an as needed basis to support emergent issues on the backshift (shared with another locksmith).

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or
Journeyman's papers in a related field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Skills

Successful completion of Locksmith certification coursework or training.
Familiarity with DOE orders and lock specifications.
Electrical safety training.
Demonstrated experience installing, repairing, and maintaining Abloy, Best, Schlage, and Yale systems.

Pay Range

$68,800.00 - $105,300.00 annually
