This is a fantastic career opportunity to join an innovative, passionate team that requires focus, persistence, and dynamism in the growing Climate sector! 3Degrees is hiring a Reporting Analyst, Environmental Markets to join our growing team and help organizations around the world achieve their renewable energy and decarbonization goals. In this role you will be a source for accurate and timely reporting from our Microsoft SQL Server database and other data sources. We are looking for a highly collaborative individual who can understand requirements from business leaders, have the skill to retrieve information, and be effective at presenting the data. You have a curious mind, a passion for accuracy and the ability to refine reporting processes with a focus on standardization and improved documentation.

This is a full-time position preferably located in the San Francisco, CA, Portland, ME, New York, NY or Portland, OR offices and will report to the Business Analyst, Environmental Markets. For highly qualified candidates a remote office with agreement to travel for training and collaboration will be considered.

What You’ll Do

The Reporting Analyst, Environmental Markets will join the Environmental Markets (EM) business unit and will assist with a redesign and consolidation of the team’s reporting processes, tools, and reports. Using your Microsoft SQL and business intelligence experience you will take on existing portfolio management and general team reporting, ensuring that a high quality standard is maintained and that the business logic is sound. You will also be relied on for ad hoc analysis and operational support. Areas of work include:

  1. Manage channels of data sharing within EM:
    • Catalog a variety of KPIs, financial metrics, and reporting tools and create a single source of truth for key information
    • Merge similar tools into simplified master copies and distribute to stakeholders
    • Track the use cases and requirements of different teams within the company and ensure EM’s data offerings meet all needs and are accessible where needed
    • Write documentation and coordinate with technical development teams to address new data or reporting needs as the business grows
    • Maintain consistency in business logic and procedure despite a high volume of ad hoc requests
    • Guide members of other teams through EM’s data offerings, explaining terms and methodologies and helping to create a shared conceptual foundation
  2. Collect and report portfolio valuation metrics:
    • Support and improve portfolio valuation tools integral to the team, updating them when changes in methodology or server architecture occur
    • Ensure published financial totals are clearly supported by raw data and describe sources of any large changes
    • Renovate portfolio tools for Carbon and Transportation portfolios, bringing them up to the standards of existing portfolios
  3. Quantify and report other aspects of team performance:
    • Run monthly booking and commission reporting process, liaising with sales and consulting teams to ensure data accuracy
    • Conduct routine reporting on EM activity metrics and operational expenses
    • Work with Risk Management team to develop and/or maintain risk reports and tools
  4. Create infrastructure supporting expansion of team reporting in Tableau:
    • Migrate reporting from SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) into Tableau where applicable
  5. Take point on incoming ad hoc requests for information, from within and outside of EM:
    • Develop and release new reporting, modify existing reports to meet team needs
    • Keep company statistics directory updated with accurate performance metrics

About You

The Reporting Analyst will be able to translate business requirements into accurate reports and be able to explain the data in simple terms. You will join the Environmental Markets team which manages the environmental attribute commodity business at 3Degrees, including renewable energy credits (RECs), carbon offsets, and clean fuel standard (CFS) solutions.

  • 2-3 years of professional experience in data analysis, SQL reporting analyst, finance
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL
  • Strong proficiency in Tableau, Power BI, or other business intelligence software
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel and other office desktop products
  • Clean energy commodity industry experience preferred (REC’s, CFS & Carbon)
  • Ability to work in a team based environment balancing competing demands toward mutual goals
  • Excellent presentation skills. Must be able to succinctly present information to other team members
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain composure under pressure
  • Self-motivated, with a genuine desire to accelerate the growth of environmental markets in the US and abroad
  • BA/BS degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of professional experience and education

How We Define Success

Within 30 days,

  • You will complete the first month of our onboarding program plus invested in your own research and have a basic understanding of 3Degrees’ company and commercial business structure, products, and services
  • Demonstrate a familiarity with the key weekly and monthly reporting conducted by the team. You understand the key server locations they rely on and are beginning to track the business requirements around each report
Within 90 days,
  • You have a solid understanding of the suite of reporting currently produced within EM. You take ownership of a few key routine reports and processes within EM, especially the core monthly business processes
  • You are able to field ad-hoc questions against the data sources we manage and clearly explain the findings
  • You have created a source for documenting our reports and began to analyze each for consolidation and standardization
Within 6 months,
  • You have cataloged the team's routine reporting; merging and standardizing it where necessary
  • You will manage the suite of routine reports for distribution, updates, and integration
  • Provide and manage documentation for each report including detail on the SQL logic used
  • Assist with process updates to manage reporting requests to the team
  • You have become an independent information source for questions against these reports, explaining trends and events to both our internal team and business users

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: The starting base pay for this position is $82,000 to $104,000 in the US. The total compensation package for the successful candidate in this role may exceed the base pay as it includes other incentive pay. The base pay is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future

  • Supplemental Pay: this position is eligible for discretionary bonus programs including the company’s profit sharing program and an annual team Bonus Pool
