Construction Accountant
At Plumb, our Construction Accountants are resourceful problem solvers and proactive , process-oriented professionals who thrive on providing continued full-cycle accounting to multiple clients, particularly construction clients. Construction Accountants are inquisitive and detail-oriented : they make sure the details never fall through the cracks and have a genuine interest in understanding how the accounts payable function impacts a client’s overall financial portfolio. Specific examples of a typical day/week are as follows:
- Client Service: Understand diverse client portfolios, specifically construction clients, and own the process of their deliverables, timelines, accounts, processes, procedures, and client communication styles.
- Provide continuous full-cycle accounting to multiple clients, ensuring that complex issues are resolved, and that all client expectations are managed and exceeded with a high degree of efficiency and effectiveness.
- Perform transactional accounting, with general bookkeeping responsibilities that include managing AP, AR, and payroll. Manage full scope of vendors.
- Maintain client confidentiality and keep all client information organized and up to date.
- Strive to go beyond the numbers and provide clarity in context and actionable solutions to client reports. Maintain financial charts and graphs.
- Complete monthly financial statements as well as bank, credit card, and brokerage reconciliations. Update and maintain Plumb 7-Step files.
- Provide excellent client service through professional written and verbal communication.

Construction Accountants are experts at balancing their workload and tight deadlines. Construction Accountants analyze challenges and devise out-of-the-box solutions. Some areas where this position can contribute are as follows:
- Self-Driven, Self-Disciplined, and Self-Motivated: Understand how to prioritize your workload, be able and willing to shift gears, find solutions to challenges, and complete all projects and tasks in a timely manner. Within the first 6 months, take ownership of a minimum of 10+ client relationships at one time while being highly utilized. Prepare initial notes for manager to analyze financial statements and mentor SAI’s to complete tasks.
- Manage Expectations: Be able to customize the client experience to meet their specific goals and needs. Manage expectations through proactive communication, detailed task management, task completion and financial analysis, and problem solving.

Software Skills: The following software systems are used frequently, and extensive experience is preferred:
- Sage 300/100/50
- QuickBooks Online
- NetSuite
Skillsets and Recommended Requirements: We are looking for a candidate who can handle the task of providing excellent client service while also providing detailed, accurate reports and documents. Here are the primary skillsets and characteristics a successful candidate will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of construction accounting experience required and 1 year of customer service experience highly preferred.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and an effective time manager.
- Very good communication skills (written and verbal) and presentation skills.
- Experience working independently and tracking time.
- Diverse Accounting Industry experience preferred, including complex journal entries, 1099 preparation, bank reconciliations, brokerage reconciliations, financial reporting and analysis, annual tax organizer, etc.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills working with various office equipment, computers, and programs including databases, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
