UH Behavioral Health is the KC metro area’s largest, most comprehensive provider of mental health services. The Crossroads Building , located in Kansas City’s vibrant Crossroads Arts District, is its epicenter, providing a broad list of outpatient services. We also offer psychiatric inpatient care, and we deliver therapeutic services through our community outreach clinics. We are a leader in the Trauma-Informed Care Movement, and provide training, coaching and consulting to outside organizations.
Job Description
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Responds to behavioral health crisis calls/needs within the community and within the University Health system.
Provides coordination of care for consumers in and outside of the University Health system.
Enhances the ability of the consumer to lead a self-determining life by providing support and information necessary to build self-esteem, assertiveness and decision making skills.
Establishes a collaborative relationships with clients, their families and other support resources, using good communication skills to ensure effective delivery of crisis related services.
Uses appropriate formal and informal crisis assessment practices in order to respond to the needs, desires and interests of the consumers. This includes facilitating the hospitalization of consumers and conducting wellness checks.
Provides information on relevant support resources available in the consumer's community and assists the consumer to identify and gain access to such resources.
Designs a safety care plans that includes available resources and interventions to meet the unique needs of individual consumers and recognizes the importance of friends, family and community relationships.
Identifies areas of self-improvement, pursues necessary educational/training resources and shares knowledge with others.
Recognizes and considers the diverse challenges facing consumers (e.g. human rights, legal, administrative and financial) and applies effective advocacy strategies to overcome such challenges.
In providing direction for effective assistance for meeting client goals and objectives, considers all concerns pertaining to career and education and mobilizes the resources to support intended outcomes
Applies appropriate actions for crisis prevention, intervention and resolution and appropriately matches those techniques to client situations.
Complies with department and division guidelines.
Completes work in a timely, organized and professional manner.
Promotes quality improvement, staff and patient safety, and cultural diversity through department operations and by personal performance.
Provides service in a manner that is appropriate for the patient’s age; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient’s physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs.
Presents a courteous and helpful demeanor, appropriate for age, to all patients, visitors, other University Health employees/medical staff members, or any other person an employee encounters while representing University Health Behavioral Health.
Maintains current knowledge related to applicable statutes, regulations, guidelines and standards necessary to perform job duties in accordance with the requirements of the Corporate Compliance Plan. Complies with the requirements of the Code of Conduct, Corporate Compliance Plan and Compliance Policies and Procedures, including training requirements. Participates in compliance activities under the direction of the Department Manager and Corporate Compliance Officer.
