Job Description

Student Guidance and Support:

  • Meet with prospective and current graduate and undergraduate students individually or in groups to discuss academic and career goals.
  • Offer guidance on course selection, degree requirements, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education educator certification requirements, and academic planning.
  • Provide assistance in resolving academic challenges and addressing personal or emotional issues affecting a student's academic performance.

Academic Planning:

  • Help students create personalized educational plans to achieve their academic objectives.
  • Ensure that students are on track to meet graduation requirements and prerequisites for advanced coursework and Missouri certification.

Career Counseling:

  • Offer advice and resources related to career exploration and job opportunities.
  • Assist students in completing internship and practicum placement applications.

Resource Referral:

  • Direct students to relevant campus resources, such as admissions, financial services offices and academic support centers.
  • Assist students in understanding and accessing scholarships, grants, and other financial aid opportunities.

Program and Policy Knowledge:

  • Stay updated on academic programs, curriculum changes, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirements, and university policies.
  • Interpret and explain university policies and academic regulations to students.
  • Communicate and cooperate with faculty and program directors with information regarding program, student, and scheduling needs

Documentation and Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions, academic plans, and progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of program development and data.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for institutional purposes.

Advisory Workshops and Outreach:

  • Organize and participate in internal and external workshops, seminars, and orientation programs.
  • Reach out to students and proactively offer support and advice.
  • Assist with undergraduate and graduate College of Education recruiting and community activities.

Professional Development:

  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in academic advising.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.

Shift

Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00 pm with some evening requirements

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Academic advising experience or Missouri teacher certification.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $44,750-46,000 Annual
