Financial Systems Analyst

Steptoe LLP, a Washington, DC-based Am Law 100 law firm, is seeking a Financial Systems Analyst to join its Accounting & Finance Department. This role will manage technical operations and provide support for the firm's financial systems including both primary and secondary programs and services. Act as liaison between financial and technical staffs for same. Perform regular and ad hoc operations as required to support financial systems.

Essential Functions

  • Develop, document, and promulgate processes and procedures related to financial systems.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of the firm's existing automated financial systems; coordinate maintenance and updates for all financial database servers.
  • Participate in implementation of new programs and upgrades; interact with firm personnel and vendors to provide detailed specifications for custom reports, inquiries, and IDE changes; coordinate testing efforts for customizations; provide feedback to developers; follow through to user acceptance.
  • Manage/perform monthly and annual financial system close processes.
  • Manage the soft-cost upload process, resolve related issues, and examine current manual procedures for automation.
  • Act as subject matter expert for accounting processes from a technical standpoint.
  • Provide support to finance personnel for financial system issues and applications; track and maintain financial systems issues list and follow-up regularly for successful resolution or acceptable workaround.
  • Monitor financial databases for integrity problems and correct errors as necessary independently or with vendors; implement and monitor proactive alerts for system issues.
  • Analyze current business processes, make recommendations for improvements, and manage system change control and related communication.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting with a minor and/or strong grounding in business information technology.
  • Expertise with accounting and finance systems typically used in law firm environments (Elite 3E or comparable).
  • 3-5 years' experience working in a law firm or other professional services.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with GAAP principles including both modified cash and accrual.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $126,000. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant's experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
