Executive Director of NextGen Ministries

The Wisconsin Conference of The United Methodist Church announces a search for an Executive Director of NextGen Ministries. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the operation of ministries serving children, youth, students, young adults, and camping ministries in the conference. This role will provide leadership for the Wisconsin Conference Camping and Retreat, Conference Youth Council, and Board of Higher Education and Student Ministries, balancing vision and financial solvency while mitigating operational risk through compliance and risk management practices.

The Executive Director reports to the Wisconsin Conference’s Director of Connectional Ministry and the Board of Camp and Retreat Ministries, Conference Youth Council, and Board of Higher Education and Student Ministries. The ideal candidate will shape, promote, and implement growth strategies through visionary, spiritual leadership while overseeing all aspects of NextGen Ministries.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide organizational and spiritual leadership to maintain, modify, and expand the impact of NextGen Ministries through Camping and Retreat Ministries, Conference Youth Council, and Campus Ministries.
  2. Direct the visionary and strategic planning necessary to develop three-to-five-year strategic plans and annual ministry plans of operation.
  3. Collaborate with the Director of Connectional Ministry and boards to provide long-range planning focusing on financial solvency, vision for ministry, and financial resources through marketing and capital development.
  4. Lead the exploration, innovation, and development of new program initiatives to keep NextGen programs fresh and appealing to local needs.
  5. Provide leadership directly or indirectly for ministry staff and volunteers, connecting them as a community and to the boards.
  6. Act as a liaison between the boards and create a cohesive vision for children, youth, student, young adults, and camping ministries in the conference.
  7. Provide leadership for operational fundraising and marketing programs, including annual and three-year strategic plans for fundraising and marketing.
  8. Oversee financial management of Camping and Retreat Ministries, including yearly budget development and monitoring financial progress, providing reports as appropriate.
  9. Work with government and regulatory agencies to maintain camping standards and review existing policies regularly.
  10. Develop relationships with other conferences and equivalent ministries and participate in professional associations.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required.
  2. Four plus years of experience with children, youth, student, young adult, and/or camping ministries is required.
  3. Four plus years of supervisory experience, including overseeing building/grounds staff.
  4. Proven project management experience is required.
  5. Experience overseeing property/facilities management, building construction, operations, and maintenance.
  6. Experience promoting programs & fundraising.
  7. First Aid, CPR, and additional training are strongly preferred.
  8. Business acumen in budget development, fiscal control, and basic accounting skills.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and maintain confidentiality.
  10. Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  11. Current knowledge or willingness to learn the polity and theology of the United Methodist Church is required.
  12. Competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites or Google Suites and Zoom; knowledge of accounting software is an asset.
  13. A valid driver’s license is required.

Working Hours:

Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm; includes evening hours and weekend work. Camp and retreat environment, including frequent outdoor work.
