Director, Risk Management (ES Risk)

As a Risk Management Director in the Enterprise Services Risk Office, we are the first line of defense to help ensure our Company remains well-managed and avoid unnecessary risk. In this position, you will play a key role in enhancing our data risk management processes across Capital One and driving project and program delivery. 

Specific responsibilities of the Risk Management Director include and are not limited to:

  • Develop and manage Objectives and Key Results for reporting and analytics.

  • Partner with teams to support accurate data on current control suite, issue mgmt, regulatory/compliance risk posture 

  • Own risk operations health metrics and monitor and analyze metrics to make recommendations to drive operational excellence inclusive of our financial reviews, business reviews, and risk reviews

  • Support ES Risk, line of business, and risk management teams by developing reporting and analytics that delivers data-driven insights on key risk topics.

  • Maintain well-managed processes to deliver reporting and analytics portfolio.

  • Ensure effective governance by identifying, framing, and presenting risk topics to be discussed by senior management in enterprise risk forums.

  • Advise and consult on the development and management of data related policies, standards and procedures.

  • Support reporting and communication of key data risk management topics across senior risk executives through monthly and quarterly reporting.

  • Support audits, exams, and assessments.

  • Stay current on the changing industry landscape and regulatory environment, and understand the impacts to Capital One.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and executives across multiple organizations to achieve strategic objectives.

  • Coordinate program-related activities and deliverables to ensure effective collaboration within the team and across stakeholder groups.

  • Analyzes data and influences others to proactively identify risks and trends.

  • Balances multiple priorities to help drive business value and support team objectives, while managing tasks and activities related to risk management initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience

  • At least 8 years of risk management, corporate strategy experience, or a combination of both

  • At least 8 years of communications, program management experience, or a combination of both

  • At least 6 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business senior executives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business or Risk Management

  • 10+ years of experience in risk, or compliance, or audit

  • 10+ years of experience in Data Management, Data Governance,  Data Privacy, or a combination

  • Demonstrates ability to drive results and communicate with all level stakeholders

  • 7+  years of experience in Banking or in the financial services industry

  • 7+ years of experience working with internal business clients

  • 5+ years of leading highly cross-functional programs

  • Relevant professional certification
