As a Lead HVAC Estimator, you will be a key player in shaping the future of our estimating team and projects. Your role will combine technical expertise with strategic oversight, ensuring that every estimate reflects our dedication to craftsmanship and customer care. You will take on more complex, high-impact projects and work closely with cross-functional teams to drive success.
This position requires both hands-on estimating expertise and the ability to mentor junior team members, helping them sharpen their craft. As a senior leader, you'll be expected to guide the development of estimates for large-scale projects while contributing to the overall strategy and growth of the estimating department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of detailed, accurate, and competitive estimates for HVAC systems in commercial and industrial projects, using your deep expertise to handle the most complex and high-value bids.
- Serve as a mentor to junior estimators, providing guidance, training, and support to help them advance their skills and contribute more effectively to the team.
- Review project documents, blueprints, and specifications with a critical eye, ensuring that all aspects of the HVAC systems are accurately estimated and aligned with project goals.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates meet both financial and technical requirements, providing leadership in decision-making processes.
- Manage vendor and supplier relationships to secure the best pricing and terms, while maintaining our high standards of quality and reliability.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walk-throughs, offering strategic insights into project requirements and constraints.
- Take a proactive role in value engineering, identifying opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining system integrity and quality.
- Continuously evaluate and improve estimating processes and tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and competitiveness.
- Track market trends, labor rates, and material costs to keep estimates up-to-date and ensure we remain competitive in the industry.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 5-7 years of experience in HVAC estimating, with a proven track record of successfully estimating large and complex projects in the mechanical contracting industry.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, with a focus on commercial and industrial applications.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents with a high level of detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external partners.
- Strong leadership abilities, with experience mentoring and guiding junior team members.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects and deadlines while maintaining a commitment to quality and customer care.
- Mastery of your trade-both in your technical estimating skills and your ability to lead and mentor others.
