Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical consultation to BNSF personnel regarding industrial hygiene concerns relative to regulations, training, risk identification, hazard evaluation and control.
- Identify and evaluate employee exposures to environmental health stressors, such as asbestos, lead, diesel exhaust, silica, welding fume, biohazards, noise and varying forms of radiation. Prepare short and long-term exposure monitoring schemes, establish and coordinate quality assurance/control measures for laboratories and industrial hygiene database.
- Direct and oversee IH Contractors for multiple air quality exposure assessment projects.
- Determine risk management plans based upon field exposure assessment, FELA/Claims experience, regulatory standards, and industry standards of care and injury/illness experiences.
- Design, develop and maintain a performance measuring process on complex and comprehensive programs such as the respiratory protection program or the industrial hygiene database system.
- Conduct employee training and provide technical presentations to field management and industries that may impact rail operations or vice versa.
- Maintain active relationships with Engineering, Mechanical, Field Safety, division operations, Strategic Sourcing and Legal departments.
- Evaluate federal and state OSHA, DOT and FRA health regulated current and proposed programs and practices relative to conducting BNSF business.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, core sciences or related engineering field required.
- Must be a Certified Industrial Hygienist in good standing with the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in comprehensive industrial hygiene practice corporate environment.
- Ability to travel your territory 40-50%.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to understand and apply solutions involving engineering controls, personal protective equipment, industrial hygiene field sampling techniques and railroad technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Safety Professional.
- Master's degree preferred.
