GENERAL FUNCTION

The Director, Employee and Labor Relations is responsible for North America Operations Employee & Labor Relations. A successful candidate will provide overall management of teams, resources, and training related to the tiered HR Service Delivery model used to manage employee issues and questions across the NA Operations network. This role will recommend and implement strategy related to operations labor relations topics and will include US, Canada, and Mexico direct and indirect leadership. This individual must have extensive experience with employee and labor relations, possess people leadership, consultative skills, effectively communicate with senior executive and management levels, and collaborate cross functionally.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and own HR investigations process using industry best-practices and ensure direct team (tier 3), as well as overall HR population (tier 1+2), are trained on HR investigation methodology.
  • Aggregate employee relations data to analyze trends, recommend actions, and measure improvements across NA Operations groups.
  • Responsible for development and strategic deployment of innovative and progressive labor relations and employment practices to strengthen employee engagement.
  • Ensure collective bargaining and contract administration practices are performed within the prescribed laws and by company procedures. Monitor changes in state and Federal laws and apply such laws as appropriate.
  • Consult senior leaders/business partners on the resolution of complex people and business issues through educational services that inform, encourage, and empower leadership.
  • Maintain overall labor relations strategies, practices, and policies for all non-unionized and unionized locations.
  • Investigate, or guide business partners to investigate complex and higher-level associate situations including those involving violations of policy and state, federal or country law.
  • Identify risk and potential company liability and use sound judgement in obtaining legal counsel when warranted.
  • Analyze trends to identify the effectiveness of initiatives and propose adjustments in strategy as warranted.
  • Travel as needed to field locations, build relationships, train, conduct key meetings, and attend key events. 30%+ travel, including international travel.
  • Build strong functional connections with NA Employee Relations COE and ER professionals in Mexico and Canada.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 10+ years employee relations experience in an operations/logistics/manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years management experience
  • 10+ years experience working with a unionized workforce
  • Proven ability to interact with all levels of management across multiple functions and organizational structures
  • Ability to lead the work of others
  • Successful history of managing projects with varying levels of responsibility in a cross-functional environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information (verbally and electronically)
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft platforms (Excel, Visio, MS Project, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Fluent with business level English (verbal and written)
