Job Summary:

The Director of Employment and Community Outreach plays a vital role in supporting the success of PG Law School students and graduates, particularly but not exclusively in Indiana. This position works collaboratively with the Purdue Global Center for Career Advancement to develop and implement a comprehensive career development program, including career counseling, resume and cover letter workshops, interview preparation, job placement assistance, and alumni networking.

The Director of Employment and Community Outreach is a critical point of contact with legal employers and bar associations, and is expected to maintain awareness of labor market data, trends, and metrics. The Director assists with the externship program, ensuring students gain valuable practical experience and build professional relationships. This role oversees program assessment and effective and timely data collection and analysis for both reporting and to inform strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  1. Direct Purdue Global Law School Career Services:
    1. Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive career development program for students and graduates, particularly but not exclusively Indiana-based JD students and graduates.
    2. Design and implement career-related programs, identifying required competencies and outlining best practices for securing employment.
    3. Plan and implement strategies and workshops to coach and direct students and graduates about best practices throughout the employment search, including effective self-presentation.
    4. Assist with the externship program, including identifying externship opportunities, guiding student selection, and ensuring compliance with program requirements.
    5. Mentor and advise students and alumni, to include phone or video conferences, as needed.
    6. Lead information sessions on career and externship topics for faculty, staff, and students.
    7. Compile, audit, and approve data that meets the policies and procedures set by Purdue Global Law School and any programmatic/regional accreditors, including any federal or state mandates.
    8. Analyze data to track student outcomes and assess program effectiveness.
  2. Internal/External Partnerships:
    1. Build and maintain relationships with legal employers and bar associations, particularly those in Indiana.
    2. Represent Purdue Global Law School at career fairs and other professional events.
    3. Regularly attend faculty meetings, conference/video calls, and in-person faculty gatherings.
    4. Participate in faculty governance and compliance with law school and University policies and procedures.
  3. Student Experience and Outcomes:
    1. Maintain an awareness and understanding of current and future legal labor market trends, industry-specific skills, and professional competencies through the use of labor market tools and external resources.
    2. Research and develop career-related tools to use in the student lifecycle to support our students and make them more proficient in their job searches and professional abilities.

Experience:

● Doctoral Degree (JD) in Law
● Minimum of 6-7 years of related experience, with at least five years of experience in law school career services or a related field.
● Admitted to any U.S. bar. Currently in good standing (active or inactive) in all jurisdictions in which you have applied or were admitted to practice law, with no significant history of bar discipline (conduct-related suspension or disbarment are disqualifying events.)
● Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience at the law school level in an online environment.

  9. Possess and maintain computers and other technology that meet the minimum requirements of the school; reliable Internet access.
  10. Significant experience with standard office applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and applications specific to the Internet such as browsers, Flash, and audio recording software. Experience or willingness to promptly learn effectively using the Google suite, especially Google Drive, Documents, and Calendar.

Additional Information:

● The target salary for this position is $105,000.
● Purdue Global will not sponsor employment authorization for this position.
