Job Summary

The HR Manager will report to Bon Appetit at LinkedIn National HR and will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling all facets of the Human Resources department at the South Bay HQ and San Francisco sites. Additionally, this role will provide advisory support to other North America Compass Group sites.

As part of this HR Manager's responsibilities, they must be able to travel to San Francisco & South Bay locations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provides strategic and tactical support to the Resident District Manager/ Director of Operation and a team of managers, chefs and other leaders in the areas of recruitment and selection, assessment, training and development, retention, engagement and compliance.
  2. Works with company HR Service Center on HR activity in the accounts, elevated investigations, and identifying trends.
  3. Reviews various reports such as training compliance, performance appraisals, and other HR programs.
  4. Work with senior managers to build a high performing team that works together effectively, with high morale and engagement, and holds people accountable to our high standards.
  5. Keeps the account updated on company policy and procedure in accordance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  6. Works with managers to develop and execute recruitment plans, and provides advice on the posting, interviewing and selection processes.
  7. Provides advice and support for employee on-boarding, including guidance on offer letters, I9 processes, background checks and orientation.
  8. Conducts training courses with HR content to include the open communication process, updated legislative procedures, handbook, policies and procedures, wage/hour, benefits, code of conduct and client special requirements.
  9. Provides support and advice in the areas of performance management, performance appraisals, and staff development programs.
  10. Provides support for the engagement survey process.
  11. Assists with complex safety and worker’s compensation cases.
  12. Works with the LOA Department on complicated cases.
  13. Manages sensitive and confidential information responsibly to include coaching documents, wages, and performance action plans.
  14. This position will work in partnership with the Resident District Manager, Site Managers and National HR to support our operations.
  15. The department will provide human resources support to attract, retain, develop, and recognize Bon Appétit employees within the business.
  16. Candidates should have prior work experience and education in the areas of:
    1. Performance management
    2. Training and development
    3. Handling complex investigations
    4. Advising on staffing and recruiting strategies
    5. Talent review conversations
    6. Engagement survey follow-up
    7. Employee recognition
    8. Compensation
    9. Providing advice in compliance with federal, state and local regulations and working in a union environment.

Qualifications

  1. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   2. A 4-year degree in HR Management, Psychology or Business Management preferred.
  3. A minimum of 10 years of work experience in lieu of a degree.
  4. PHR certification is a plus.
  5. 4-7 years of previous HR experience preferably in the hospitality industry.
  6. Good working knowledge of human resources especially in California Labor Law.
  7. Experience working in a union environment is a plus.
  8. Has knowledge of payroll concepts, employee relations, policies and procedures, employment practices, compensation, LOA, FMLA, performance management and training.
  9. Strong analytical skills and ability to make recommendations, demonstrates organizational skills, problem-solving skills, active listening and critical thinking skills.
  10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  11. Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  12. Demonstrated ability to handle difficult employee situations effectively.
  13. Demonstrates skill in prioritizing competing work assignments, employing political acumen and integrating information to determine appropriate courses of action and their implications.
  14. Must be able to handle sensitive issues with confidentiality, tact, and discretion.
  15. Ability to work well in a team environment.
  16. Must be able to travel to San Francisco & South Bay locations.
