Distinguished Engineer/Architect
What you'll do
Leads and directs in large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements, translating requirements into technical product solutions in the advertising business systems. Directs root cause analysis of critical business and production issues by reviewing and analyzing information (for example, issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause); directing actions as designated in the plan.
About The TeamWalmart's Advertising Technology group enables the connection between supplier brands and retail shoppers at unprecedented scale. We are a highly motivated group of engineers and data scientists, working in an agile group to solve sophisticated and high impact problems. We serve billions of ad requests every month with our high-performance ad servers. We build smart data systems that ingest, model, analyze and optimize the massive flow of data from online and store user activity and transactions. We use cutting edge machine learning, data mining and optimization algorithms on this data. Above all, we are laser focused on delivering experiences that our customers and advertisers love. This role is part of our Advertising Business Systems (ABS) engineering team and will build the next generation omni-advertising platforms to deliver performance and value to advertisers at scale. A successful person in this role will architect major components of the automation initiatives for AdTech, drive alignment with other teams, guide architecture and technology choices within the team and across Walmart. This role will be responsible for analyzing competitive trends and patterns; analyzing the technology landscape; evaluating short- term and long-term implications and communicating strategies and initiatives clearly. This is a hands-on Architect role, and we are looking for an exceptional and experienced coder first.
You'll sweep us off our feet if...
- 15+ years of experience in software development, focusing on big data processing, real-time serving and distributed low latency systems
- Expert in multiple distributed technologies (e.g. Spark/Storm, Kafka, Key Value Stores, Caching, Solr, Druid, etc.)
- Proficient in Scala or Java and Full Stack application development.
- Deep knowledge in Hadoop ecosystem, like HDFS, Hive, MapReduce, Presto, etc.
- Advanced knowledge of complex software design, distributed system design, design patterns, data structures and algorithms.
- Experience working as a Machine Learning engineer closely collaborating with data scientists.
- Experience in one or more public cloud technologies like GCP, Azure, etc.
- Excellent debugging and problem-solving capability.
- Experience in working in large teams using CI/CD and agile methodologies.
- Domain expertise in Ad Tech systems is a plus. Experience working with financial applications is a plus.
You'll Make An Impact By
- Define overall Advertising Business Systems (ABS) Architecture strategy for ABS including for Global ABS as part of the Global Ad Serving initiative.
- Developing highly scalable services to process millions of requests per day and solve complex software systems problems by leveraging state-of-the-art technology.
- Drive consensus with other Tech teams to consolidate data, data access patterns, and data pull mechanisms.
- Working with the data scientists and product managers to deliver various initiatives across different areas of the AdTech platforms to improve advertiser experience.
- Drive AI/ML based capabilities such as Demand Forecasting, Media Mix, and Operations automation.
- Driving projects of high visibility across the organization.
- Drive Operational Excellence and Engineering Excellence initiatives for ABS as a whole by enforcing Engineering Best Practices.
- Come up with a strategy and plan to support third party SaaS applications for various business areas.
- Mentoring and guiding mid-to-junior engineers.
- Showing your chops as an exceptional and experienced coder.

Minimum Qualifications
