The Position

Accountant Technicians perform technical accounts maintenance work for agencies with complex accounting functions or systems. Factors that contribute to complexity include, but are not limited to, federal grant reporting, external bank accounts, cost allocation plans, budget accounts, bank guidelines other than those contained in the State Administrative Manual, enterprise accounting, complex fund accounting, and external reporting requirements.

This announcement will be used to fill an Accountant Technician 1 position with the DMV, within our Administrative Services Division, located in our Reno office. Upon meeting the minimum qualifications and with Appointing Authority approval, the incumbent will progress to the Accountant Technician 2 level. This position will be responsible for yearly, quarterly, monthly, and semimonthly reconciliation and distribution of funds; prepare and process payments and journal vouchers; account code adjustments and process exception reports; provide funds handling training to all Divisions as requested; manages users for desktop deposit; maintains Certificates of Deposit and Letters of Credit inventory and spreadsheets; researches deposit exceptions from the Treasurer's Office and resolves as indicated. The incumbent will handle large amounts of cash on a daily basis. This position will also supervise and manage office and staffing operations to include establishing priorities and/or reassigning work in the Reno revenue office.

The incumbent will provide back-up coverage as needed in revenue offices within a 50-mile radius, this could require working 10-hour shifts and is subject to overtime due to late customers. The incumbent will be required to utilize their personal vehicle (with fuel reimbursement) to commute to Carson City weekly, semimonthly, monthly, or quarterly for training/meetings or coverage depending upon the needs of the agency. Under the authority of NRS 239B.010.1(b), the DMV utilizes NRS 205.4605 - 205.810, NRS 293.504, NRS 293.5045, 6 CFR 37.45, 49 CFR 1572.103, and 49 CFR 384.228 as criteria to obtain an FBI fingerprint clearance check on current and prospective employees. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)


Graduation from high school supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting and two years of financial records maintenance experience which includes such duties as controlling accounts payable/receivable; preparing financial reports for internal management use; and reconciling complex accounts; OR two years of experience as an Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service which includes 6 college credits in beginning accounting; OR one year as an Accounting Assistant IV in Nevada State service which includes 6 college credits in beginning accounting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting.
