MYAS PROGRAM DIRECTOR

· Full-time position

· Primary duties of the position will be within the MYAS basketball program, but will also include working with new programs and growth areas such as football, Greater Minnesota Basketball and Baseball, and others as needed.

The MYAS Program Director serves the youth basketball community in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. This includes, but is not limited to, the winter community-based season (October-March) as well as the spring/summer/fall “open” season. Through collaboration with youth sports associations, youth club leadership, coaches, parents, and community leaders, the Program Director is responsible for promoting the mission, values, and goals of the MYAS while advancing all basketball department programs, policies, and procedures.

SALARY/HOURS/LOCATION

Salary commensurate with experience with opportunities for advancement based on performance.

· Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000 (depending on qualifications)

· Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm; evenings and weekends as needed

· This is not a remote position; office hours will be at the MYAS in Spring Lake Park, MN

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, promote and implement youth sporting events
  • Recruit teams to participate
  • Recruit and train volunteer groups to host events
  • Create printed and online publications, manuals, handbooks, and articles for leagues, clinics, camps, and tournaments
  • Direct, assist, and manage event volunteers, coaches, association presidents, and directors
  • Develop and administer budget and marketing plans for all assigned programs
  • Serve as liaison and on-call contact for paid tournament staff, coordinating and supervising every facet of quality invitationals, state tournaments, national qualifying events, super-regionals, and national events
  • Produce and present the marketing strategies for prospective communities/associations and/or at league coaches’ meetings, scheduling and seeding sessions, workshops, and coaches’ training clinics.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • General sports knowledge with a higher level of understanding within the sport of basketball
  • An understanding of the Minnesota youth sports landscape, including knowledge of parent-volunteer athletic associations
  • Scheduling and implementation of tournaments, leagues, and educational services
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to effectively coordinate large-scale and small-scale events
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, as well as work independently
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to communicate and respond effectively with the public in both small and large group settings
  • Ability to use a computer for correspondence, reports, registration, event scheduling, and as a tool for promotion of MYAS programs/events
  • Ability to effectively use social media to communicate and promote programs
  • Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strengths centered around relationship building and effective communication

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in sports administration – additional experience in business or education also helpful
  • Knowledge or experience in nonprofit administration
  • High moral integrity and transparency
  • Understanding of family dynamics in relation to involvement in activities, particularly in youth sports
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, asset management (including property), and fiscal analysis
  • Experience or demonstrated ability in major event planning
  • Flexible hours, including ability to work nights and weekends
  • Strong Communication Skills – ability to clearly convey ideas and expectations to large groups
  • Ability to get along with individuals of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Strong organization skills – ability to organize work duties on macro and micro levels and to delegate tasks to staff and volunteers.
  • Conflict management skills
  • Working knowledge of database management, MS Office, QuickBooks financial software, website management (MYAS has multiple websites) and social media marketing
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan and coordinate operations
  • Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, decision making, delegation
  • Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, staff, community groups, and other related agencies.
