Position Purpose:
The Academic Improvement Specialist provides highly individualized, wraparound support for undergraduate students experiencing academic difficulty. The Academic Improvement Specialist will work at both the individual and the institutional level to identify and address the factors that both impede and strengthen students' academic achievement. The Academic Improvement Specialist will lead efforts to develop holistic programming for undergraduate students aimed at improving academic performance and bolstering students' sense of belonging and purpose at the College.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp: Bachelors plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, or related field.
  • 3-5 years experience in academic advising, student support, counseling, or related area.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and motivate students.
  • Knowledge of academic support strategies, learning styles, and student development theory.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations, faculty, and staff.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and report writing.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity, equity, and academic excellence.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree.

  • Offers guidance on study skills, time management, organization, and goal setting.
  • Monitors student progress and provide ongoing support and encouragement.
  • Acts as a mentor and advocate for students, promoting self-advocacy and empowerment.

Resource Collaboration -
  • Collaborates with academic advisors, faculty, and campus support services to address student needs effectively.
  • Refers students to appropriate resources such as tutoring, counseling, and wellness workshops.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of campus resources and referral processes.
  • Develops and delivers presentations or workshops to promote academic success strategies.

Peer Mentoring -
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises peer mentors to support students.
  • Facilitates peer mentoring sessions and workshops.
  • Matches students with peer mentors based on compatibility and needs.
  • Monitors peer mentorship relationships and provides guidance and support as needed.

Data Analysis and Reporting -
  • Collects and analyzes data related to student performance, and success.
  • Identifies trends and patterns to inform programmatic improvements and interventions.
  • Prepares regular reports on student progress and program outcomes for stakeholders.
