How you will make a difference:
- Provide a broad range of legal and risk services to various company interests, including but not limited to long-term care, hospitals, therapy, and home health entities.
How you will spend your time:
- Meet the physical and sensory requirements stated below and be able to work in the described environment.
- Assist the Vice President of Litigation Risk Services in handling and managing all aspects of potential, existing, and preventative litigation and risk matters for the entire company and all of its affiliates, including but not limited to matters involving professional liability, survey/regulatory, employment, general liability, administrative appeals, and contracts, as well as high-level internal company investigations.
- Assist with the investigation of existing and potential claims, including but not limited to interviewing witnesses, gathering and reviewing documents, and creating investigation files; this may include, on an as-needed or event basis, taking calls and/or responding to and/or following up on the company’s 24/7 high-risk event reporting line.
- Work closely with assigned outside legal counsel and in-house paralegals on developing and implementing the company’s resident personal injury litigation strategy, reports and analysis, and routine personal injury pleadings and discovery.
- Represent the company in certain litigation, mediation, and administrative matters, as needed.
- Assist with the development and training of Stakeholder education in all litigation and risk prevention areas.
- Respond to and assist with daily questions and needs from the clinical and administrative staff, as well as company management.
- Assist with the development, organization, maintenance of other global risk organizational needs (i.e., enterprise risk, board reporting, etc.).
- Serve on and/or lead internal company committees, as assigned.
- Assist with the review and revision of company policies and procedures, as needed.
- Research legal issues, as needed.
- Keep informed and provide guidance regarding current state and Federal laws affecting the company’s litigation and other risk matters.
- Identify and participate in process improvement initiatives that improve the customer experience, enhance workflow, and/or improve the work environment.
- Other special projects and duties, as assigned.
The qualifications you will need:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree required from an accredited U.S. law school.
- Minimum of eight (8) years litigation experience, LTC defense and/or medical malpractice experience, required.
- Must be a member in good standing of the Kentucky Bar (TN Bar admission a plus, or at a minimum, eligible for TN Bar limited certificate of admission as in-house-counsel).
- Effective verbal and written English communication skills.
- Demonstrated intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook, Internet and Intranet navigation.
- Highest level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate at all levels of organization and work well within a team environment in support of company objectives.
- Customer service oriented with the ability to work well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize, coordinate and simultaneously maintain multiple projects with high level of quality and productivity.
