Job Requirements / Description

Under direction, develops, implements, and maintains technology processes for the Authority’s Data Analytics department. Aids in the research and conceptualization of new programming and automation initiatives for the agency. Coordinates with team and IT department to ensure technical processes reflect department and organizational priorities. Performs business and data analysis to deliver data and analytics capabilities to the organization.

Qualifications

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs hands-on coding and configuration work with an ever-evolving technology toolset.
  2. Works with Data Analytics group to identify methods that allow for maintenance, enhancement, and automation of existing capabilities.
  3. Conducts thorough problem analysis of department technical systems and application programs. Documents findings and proposes problem resolution alternatives.
  4. Builds front-end web interfaces for sharing and visualizing analytic output.
  5. Reviews all programs prior to implementation to verify consistency and conformance with established departmental guidelines, policies and practices as well as industry standards and guidelines.
  6. Maintains current working knowledge of all application systems and technologies.
  7. Serves as technical project liaison with various departments on behalf of the Data Analytics department.
  8. Provides technical expertise and serves as subject matter expert on Data Analytics project needs and goals.
  9. Assists in the creation and automation of Data Analytics’ capabilities to support project efforts.
  10. Provides assistance to Data Analytics group members on data sourcing, transformation, and modeling activities.
  11. Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Economics, Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Quantitative Analysis, or a related field, plus three (3) years of hands-on technical development experience and/or programming and systems design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity, and fingering for working with computer keyboards.
  2. When making visits in the field, subject to noise, machinery, and garage environment exposure.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Detailed knowledge of systems development concepts, lifecycles, and methodologies.
  2. Detailed knowledge of data management/SQL concepts, lifecycles, and methodologies.
  3. Detailed knowledge of relevant programming languages, such as Python, Java, PHP, HTML, Javascript, CSS, PL/SQL, R, Ruby, C#, C++, etc.
  4. Detailed knowledge of relational database design.
  5. Detailed knowledge of a range of RDBMS query languages, including PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.
  6. Working knowledge of machine learning processes and common algorithms.
  7. Working knowledge of physical, logical, and conceptual data model design.
  8. Working knowledge of structured programming principles.
  9. Working knowledge of the methods and practices in system implementation, industry standard testing, database administration, and user training.
  10. Working knowledge of a Business Intelligence technical stack preferred.
  11. Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services database infrastructure preferred.
  12. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  13. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  14. Good organization skills and attention to detail.
  15. Good time management skills.
  16. Ability to manage multiple deadlines with competing priorities.
  17. Ability to work effectively with various departments at all levels of the organization.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. General office environment.
  2. Required to travel to locations throughout the CTA system and Chicago area as needed.

  1. Standard office equipment.
  2. Personal computer and related data analytics applications and software.
